Thread: Patterns for castings |
04/02/2011 06:15:15 |
It occurred to me that many people over the years will have made patterns for castings for projects they were building. Once used, these could be languishing at the back of their workshop, whereas someone else may be looking for exactly that pattern.
My suggestion is that a database of patterns be set up so that people can communicate with each other with a view to loaning/ buying patterns that are no longer needed by the original maker. |

Thread: Tufnol |
04/02/2011 06:02:01 |
As far as I remember, Tufnol is made using phenol resin as a binder for making a laminate of paper, cloth or glassfibre. Phenolic resin is basically the same as Bakelite. When burning, the smoke of Tufnol is unpleasant and choking.
Other sites say that the tool must be extremely sharp, and that water or WD40 are good lubricants whilst machining.
Bear in mind that Tufnol is a laminate and can split along the laminate, especially the paper based stuff. |
