Thread: Fuel Tap material
20/12/2015 11:00:58

I need to make a small part for a fuel tap. The original part is brass, I don't happen to have any of the right size. Can I make the part in steel?? Or is there a reason why its brass? It will get petrol on it.

Yeah an internet search told me about the corks, got some new ones on order!

Just occurred to me I have some bits of Delrin lying around, I wonder if they would make a good seal??

My fuel tap has a small but steady drip when closed. Do I need to worry about this??

Thread: BSW/BSF vs BSC
21/11/2015 18:35:36

I have a spares list for the bike, it obviously lists the parts and part numbers, what it doesn't do is give any dimensions teeth

OK I have made a start and the first thread I've come across is a stud under the saddle. It just holds a bracket on but I'd like to run a die down the stud as its rusty.

The thread is 1/4" across (well actually 240 thou) and its 26tpi according to my thread gauge. How can I tell whether its 1/4" BSF or 1/4" BSC.

I know ones 55 deg and ones 60 deg but how do I tell. They are slightly recessed so I cant look side on with the thread gauge

Thread: Whats this tool?

I finally moved my workshop and one of the things I unearthed is this.

Errr what is it?

Thread: Thrust washers
06/11/2015 10:14:47

OK whats a thrust washer?

I know its supposed to stop lateral movement of a shaft, but frankly it looks like any other washer to me, what makes it different?

Can I just turn a new one out of a bit of steel or does it have to be summat special??

Cheers, already got the Ratio books on order

I'm assuming that on a Beezer I'll find BSC screw threads as opposed to BSW/BSF. My question is WHERE I'm likely to find them? I mean are they used across the whole bike or just in certain areas?

Right then I'll set the ball rolling.

I note with interest the comments about upgrading to 12v electrics.

Is it really that easy?? Just join the two sets of wires? You don't have to upgrade the alternator or the coils or anything, they can all handle 12v?

I do have the Haynes manual with a wiring diagram for the Star, but I'm not sure its complete as I don't see an earth from the points nor a spark plug!

Done, see bottom of this section!

I'll add my queries on the C15 electrics there
