Thread: size of flex required

Duncan

It is likely there is an output pair on the VFD for a remote emergency stop, check your manual.

Emgee

Hi Emgee, the emergency stop feature of the vfd is not considered safe enough, the vfd could develop a fault which prevents the e stop function working. The e stop should disconnect all power to the vfd isolating all the equipment from the power supply.

Are you talking about driving the motor with the flex, or the e-stop circuit. Either way it is big enough.

If it gives 6amps in the regs, then that is for 50mtr run. Taking it you have a short run then it will be considerably higher.

Steve.

Hi Steve, for 0.75mm flex 6A is the maximum current rating and volt drop has to be allowed for. BS7671 table 4F3A, for 0,75mm flex single phase gives a value for volt drop of 62 mV/A/m. A load of 6amps on a 50mtr circuit will give a volt drop of 18.6 volts which is more than the allowed 5% at 230V.

Thread: Sparkies advice please

Hello Thomas, some good advise from Graham, Trevorh, and Bob. Also ask the Sparky about the best way for you to wire your final circuits in the workshop. Any extra information is always useful.

Regards, Brian.

Hi Thomas,

You are getting a lot of advice all based on assumptions of the electrical characteristics of your supply, and of your knowledge of installing electrical circuits, and how you interpret the advise given. Two cables at a socket do not guarantee a ring it could be a double spur or a radial circuit. Just because you have wire fuses, ( BS3036 semi-enclosed fuses ) does not mean you have to replace the fuseboard, it depends on its condition and the condition of other things as well. An earth rod is a very vague description of what is required for Earthing an Electrical Installation, it and its connecting cable, and its resistance to earth must comply with British Standards, (BS 7671: 2008 (Seventeenth Edition) 3rd Amendment - 2015) to be safe. The best way is to get a Qualified Electrician to check what you have now and advise you on how to install what you require, and to check and Test it it when complete.

Brian.

Thread: Mini Lathe Owners - how do you fix your lathe? Or not?
08/02/2015 21:43:33

Neil,

I have put the photos in an album,

It is made from 12mm plate, 20mm electrical conduit, 21mm X 41mm unistrut. The feet are from a washing machine and are threaded into short bits of 40mm round bar. The studding is M12.

Neil,
when I was aligning my mini lathe i found I could get the spindle set up parallel to the bed but it would not stay parallel for long. I bought it second hand and it was bolted to a 1.5 inch thick piece of mdf which I thought would give it some rigidity but I found that pushing down on opposite corners of the mdf base would result in the dti showing 0.005 to 0.010 inch deviations. Something more rigid was needed. I made a steel frame to mount it on, and now while aligning the lathe it can be lifted at one corner with no movement on the dti. in use it doesn't move on the bench.

I have three photos but need to find out how to put them in. When I put them in my post is 3000000 characters to long.

Thread: Danfoss Starter Switch
25/04/2012 00:46:26

hi dave,

usualy these starters are modular in design, contactor, start button, and overload with the stop button. they usualy use the same numbering system for the electrical conections. are there any numbers/letters on the terminals of the start stop switch? your diagramme does not appear to have an overload unit, what is the power rating of the motor?
