hi Len thanks for that I see you seem to have the covers as well. my senior has the knuckle head so i will probably be getting a 3 axis one I will have to mount it on the knee somehow but theres plenty of room and i will be able to use it when horizontal milling (although i never done any yet) which readout do you use? had any problems with it? many thanks Paul

hello I'm thinking of up grading my senior m1 mill and my ford ml7 with dro's i think I'm going to go with machine dro's sds6 style readout but unsure about which encoders to get weather glass or magnetic I understand that the magnetic ones are a lot slimmer and take up less room they are also ip 67 rated which is good any thoughts or comments good or bad would be appreciated as I know very little about this subject other than what I've read on this site and the net in general may I also add they will be used for model engineering only (hopefully) and i do sometimes use pumped cutting fluid many thanks in advance for any replies Paul |

The police did say they need a very good description form any defects like missing bolts , cap or hex cracks and scratches ser No and quirky things . when they do a raid on someone's house you stand a better chance of getting it back as there data base searches for the info you have given them I has a 3 page statement just for the compressor ty Kevin I'm sorry to say this but don't get your hopes up. I had several pieces of equipment and machines stolen. I gave the police the serial numbers, and actual photos of the stolen items they were also etched & marked with the ultra violet pens in hard to get/see places and they still didn't turn up. in my opinion best thing you can do is make it as difficult as possible for them to get and have some visible deterrant but not too much (you don't want to place an advert) also you can put a stout bar/scaffold pole about 2' away from the door & 6'' up from the floor painted black so as to be unseen by intruders in the dark (if they trip and fall over this onto machinery they may well injure themselves and leave some form of DNA ie blood) regards Paul |

hello MichaelG. yes it is motorised, I've only had it running to see if it works thats about it, the motor its self is from a washing machine i presume as it has a hoover on the plate, it stands on a home made trolly It's going to be awhile before I get round to using it as I'm new to this model engineering lark and i'm only just getting to grips with my lathe. Just started to machine my 1st engine (stuart 10v) a bit of head scratching going on but it's a learning curve. If i get chance later i will take some pics and try and post them regards paul |

well done i hope you will keep us informed as to how you go on with it there was a serial in me or mew recently but i just haven't had time to read & digest it i too have an adept no 2 powered shaper but i haven't had chance to "have a play" with it yet i have also come to the conclusion that i got a bit of a bargain when i bought it , as i understand they are quite rare ,and mines in fantastic condition. infact i did a lot of uming & arhing before i bought it. glad i did now regards paul |

I too am in a similar position to you I've even considered ringing the ex myford setup boys. but personally I think the best way to learn is by doing it yourself. alas i'm still struggling but getting there slowly (I hope) The main thing for me is belt tension, If too tight & it pulls the test bar out of true. Too slack and the belts slip even under very little load. My machine is old and well worn though might even be me expecting too much of the old girl. hopefully there may be some informative replys |

Hi Keith thankyou for the link it has made very intresting reading now added to my favorites paul
Posted by CuP Alloys 1 on 09/08/2013 15:04:57: Hi Bill, Use "hot rodding" as a means of adding extra flux to a joint already fluxed. Home made flux coated rods are not recommended for the model engineer because
Heat the joint and let the silver solder get its heat from the joint - not the torch. Use the thinnest rod practicable More advice on www.cupalloys.co.uk/best_practise/ Keith PS Thanks Matt for your comments
