Thread: turbo-generator articles

Gentlemen,

Thanks for your responses. I have found the articles you mentioned. So the complete list of references is below.

I intend building such a steam generator for my 5" G Simplex which I am finishing (started 40 years ago) now that I am retired.

I have a vague memory of a Model Engineer article some years ago
describing how someone made a steam turbo-generator from a modern pocket dynamo LED light.
Can anyone tell me the reference ?

I have looked up some indices of ME and found the following
references to steam turbo-generators but not the one I am after:

Thread: Overseas deliveries ?
10/06/2020 07:57:05

When will overseas deliveries of ME start again ? In Germany my last delivery was nr. 4635 (27 March-9 April). queries sent to [email protected] twice just gives me a reference number.

Other mail deliveries of items from UK to Germany (and Norway) are prompt in recent weeks.

Thread: Brass or cycle thread ?

Thanks for your replies. The boiler maker confirms it was BSB as expected.

It just shows you have to be careful when buying taps & dies at shows, to look not only at the size and pitch.

I see that this was pointed out by houstonceng in another posting on 10/02/2018.

So I will buy some BSB taps/dies. It is amazing how prices vary between suppliers!enlightened

I wasn´t aware that 1/2" 26tpi thread could be BSB (brass) or BSC (cycle) thread when I bought the taps and dies. I see that what I have has BSC or BSCY stamped on them. I want to make fittings for a commercially made Simplex boiler, so I want to know what is normally used for boiler fitting threads. The difference is in the angle, 55 or 60 degree of the thread. I will try finding out from the boiler builder. The drawing does not specify which should be used.
