Thread: Northumbrian boiler mistake ? |

On page 497 the rear view of the boiler gives a dimension of 2.625" to the top of the firebox, but this should be to the cenreline and the firebox probably 3.5".Sorry I forgot to mention that this is the Northumbrian boiler. Edited By John Willman on 06/06/2010 21:46:06 |
Thread: Leveling a Warco 1224 Gear Head Lathe |
26/04/2010 21:46:35 |
In one of my old engineering textbooks the reference to levelling the lathe appears to have little to do with the machine being horizontal, but is described as the process of getting the machine setup accurately. That is things like the alignment of the headstock, slideways etc.
In a book on machine tool design by Konigsberger, he states that a good machine tool should perform accurately hanging from a crane!
I cannot see any technical reason why a lathe should be exactly horizontal as some people seem to be concerned about.

Thread: Northumbrian Frames are wrong! |
09/12/2009 11:25:32 |
My twelve year old son had just put the last rivet in thehorns when it was announced the frames were too short. As this represented a huge effort for his fist engine I could not ask him to start again.Making a new set for him was rejected as it would no longer be his work,so Itried welding in a short section, and this seems to be successful. I am hoping the paint will hide it.
