G'day to all, if i cant find my permanent felt marker my old standby is plumbers pvc pipe cleaner. It usually comes in dark blue, red and pink, as i'm a semi retired builder / developer i usually have some left over from previous projects. The acetone in the cleaner also cleans up the suface to be marked..Regards Ivan.. |

G'day to all.
After picking up the Diamond Tool Holder from Gary (Eccentric Engineer )i couldn't wait to get home and try it out, and i wasn't dissapointed.
The only toolbit slippage i got was when i took toooo deep a cut on a rough iron casting, once i resharpened the bit and took a more sensible cut it worked great.
Due to my banged up hands and partial loss of sight in my left eye, grinding lathe toolbits with all the different angles is abit of a problem, i studied mechanical engineering for four years in college so i am well trained in freehand grinding, with the diamond tool holder and the supplied grinding jig i find it so easy and simple.
Using replaceable carbide bits was my only other option and that was getting rather costly, especialy when my two sons use the workshop building their go karts and so on.
Threading with it was very straight forward, only if it could do internal threads, grinding the toolbit with the jig was a breeze. No more expensive threading replaceable bits for me thank GOD, except for internal threading, BUGGER....
I found Gary ( Eccentric Engineering ) to be a real gentleman and after looking at some of his work in his workshop, a true proffesional in the engineering field.
After using this kit i have no hesitation in recomending it to anyone, its so easy to use and alot cheaper then some of the other options.
Regards , Ivan K.

G'day to all.
Just bought the diamond tool holder and i regret not knowing about it earlier. I paid $132 Aussie dollars for it and another $25 dollars for some extra HSS bits ,ground for plain turning and threading. After i added up what my other lathe tools cost me, $157 AUS was peanuts. I will eventualy have to buy more HSS bits but its alot cheaper then $86 AUS for a pack of 6 replaceable carbide tips for plain turning then another $89 AUS for external threading tips. If the diamond tool holder could do internal threads, i would never need to take the the holder of the tool post, except for parting, knurling etc. Sitting in my top lathe tool drawer gathering dust are (1) Turning tool kit $253 AUS (2) Threading tool kit $167AUS (3) Quick change tool post $211 AUS (dont need this as Chris said, slide the bit up or down to centre height) and about another $220 AUS in spare replaceable tips.
OH, Circlip i dont want to seem rude, but there is no shame in buying a useful product , or helping a fellow engineer no mater where it or he is from. I say this with a Myford in my garage workshop and a Land Rover Disco in my driveway. Sorry mate but the wife drives a Holden Commodore, it seems she has the same ideology as you..
Regards
