Update on yesterday's Hermes delivery saga. John Lewis apologised for the parcels being mis-delivered and offered twenty pound gift card for the inconvenience, rude not to accept..Further development this evening, Hermes driver called round with profuse apologies for his mistake in delivering to the wrong address and admitted that he was responsible for a previous wrong delivery of one our parcels. In mitigation English is not his first language he speaks the second most common language of the UK, - Polish. Hopefully he will now recognise where we've live, remains to be seen if Hermes can sort it in the future.

Hermes have struck again!! Waiting for a delivery of two parcels from John Lewis received two emails from Hermes stating that the items had been delivered, unfortunately not to our address. This was a repeat of previous episodes where correctly addressed items had been delivered to an address in a nearby street, it seems Hermes operatives are unable to correctly read addresses and postcodes, they are a Rubbish organisation unsurprisingly they have no consumer service department that you can contact either by phone or email, I wonder why? I had to retrieve my parcels when I realised where they had ended up, emailed John Lewis and told them Hermes is damaging their image and if they continue to use them for deliveries then I will not order online from them. I suppose you have to expect the type of service from Hermes when you realise they use part timers using their own cars for deliveries, not very professional set up, obviously a cheapskate outfit. |

In response to Mark's comment on the lack of bugs for the birds to feed on, I have noticed that now when I use my car in the summer months my windscreen and headlights no longer get plastered with dead bugs as used to happen a few years ago. Does this mean there are less bugs around or perhaps the car is more aerodynamic and misses the bugs, probably there are much fewer bugs due to environment or climate factors. Reference the subject of Mason Bees or as they are commonly known Solitary Bees, I have a number of colonies in my garden using sections of bamboo, this year I saw a huge increase in their activity, probably due to favourable weather here in the south, any south facing location is suitable for them and they are excellent pollinators and of course no honey is produced and no sting they are fascinating to watch in spring, anything up to 40 or 50 busy laying and sealing up their cells. |

Ordered some items from Holland & Barrett, they were despatched with Hermes, received an email from Hermes confirming that they had been delivered - but they hadn't been delivered to my address.. Later that day received a telephone call from a lady in a neighbouring street that she had our parcel which had been left at her address, same number house - wrong street. Holland & Barrett were very good over the issue but I would never choose Hermes to deliver anything, they give the appearance that they couldn't care what happens. Only ever had positive experiences with DPD, their local driver very friendly and efficient, they give an email with one hour delivery slot, always arrive within 10 minutes of the beginning of the time slot, first class service. |

In my workshop I have wired in a "non maintained" emergency light, which whilst there is power in the workshop circuit is off and charging, as soon as the power fails for whatever reason, the emergency light illuminates and will run for about three hours, plenty long enough to find your way out of the workshop. The unit contains a 4 watt fluorescent which doesn't' sound much but it is the emergency light specified for public buildings such as our local village hall. The units are very reasonable cost and are obtainable at outlets such as Screwfix, no connection other than a satisfied customer. |
