Thread: Midlands exhibition silver soldering talk |
05/03/2012 11:05:10 |
Hello, At the Midlands exhibition last year there was a very interesting talk about siver soldering. The man giving the talk also had a vendors stall at the exhibition. I managed to loose my notes on the way home and I do not remember the name of the company. If somebody could refresh my memory I would be grateful. Thanks Goran Canary Islands

Thread: Bronze wire, where to find |
22/11/2011 14:16:31 |
Tubal Cain in his books "Simple model steam engines" uses bronze wire for making springs. I have searched the Internet but have not been able to find a source for small quantities. Any recommendations on where I can buy this wire by mail? Goran Canary Islands |
Thread: Fastners in Birmingham |

Is there a place where it would be possible to find bolts and nuts with left hand thread in Birmingham? I will be going to the Midlands exhibition and then passing through Birmingham and would like to buy some such bolts. Goran Canary Islands |
Thread: What exhibition? |

Well, I have found some reasonable flights and will go to the Middlands exhibition. I will be there all five days but I hope to do some touristing too. Now I am just searching for some simple accommodation, type bed and breakfast or similar. Goran |

It seems that the Midlands exhibition is the one most accessible travel wise from here. How many days do one really need to go through it leisurely? Are any of the days more important than the others? Goran |

Thanks Andy for your warning! That could turn out expensive but I came from Sweden originally and I do still have some suitable clothing. Goran |

That is an interesting suggestion! Germany is normally easier than GB to reach from here. Goran |

Hello, I am principally interested in tools and materials. Goran |

Living on La Palma, one of the smaller of the Canary Islands, my contact with others interested in model engineering is, except via internet, non existent. I am therefore looking into the possibility of making a visit to one of the British model engineers exhibitions - but which one should I chose? Goran |
Thread: MEW 156 tangential toolholder angles |
14/05/2011 21:09:10 |
Hello Chris, I will be waiting for your pics - but January is a long time away for the Doh moment. My MEW 156 version cuts nicely but I have problem with the toolbit getting pushed down. No catastrophic damage but I have to remeasure all the time to get the correct final diameter. Your version looks like it should hold the toolbit better. Goran |

Chris- For us non UK persons who do not even know what or where Ally-Pally is it would be useful if you could post the method Goran Canary Islands |

Kind Sir, could you please explain how the Oz style is. Goran |

Please take those pics - and perhaps a link to the drawings? Goran |

My first use of the tangential too lholder from MEW 156 gave me a better surface on F114 steel than I have been able to achieve until now. Has anybody experimented with other grind angles than 30 degrees for even better surface - and for other materials? If my geometry is correct the tool as designed has 10 degrees side rake and back rake, front and side relief is12 degrees. Goran Canary Islands |
Thread: Harold Hall QTCP, MEW 50, any one using it? |
05/12/2010 08:08:33 |
Bill, is your toolpost indexable, that is, can you change tools and then get the old one back again in the same position? I am using a set of 4-way toolholders, I have got 5 of them. which makes for a quick an easy tool change and no overhang, but I cannot get the tool back to exactly the same position (in rotation of the toolholder) except if I use the top slide parallel with the lathe axis, where it fouls the TS. That is why I am looking for an alternative. Goran |

Bill, what was the outcome of your research? Goran |
Thread: Drill bit types |
04/12/2010 16:51:35 |
Perhaps I am using the wrong terms but what I seen in the catalogues are Rolled high speed, straight shank HSS drill bit respective HSS fully ground drill bits, Goran |

There seems to be two basic HSS drill bit types, the rolled one and the ground one, the second being somewhat more expensive. What is the difference in use? Goran Canary Islands |
Thread: Harold Hall QTCP, MEW 50, any one using it? |

Has anyone used the QTCP that Harold Hall published in MEW 50 (also at http://www.homews.co.uk/page38.html). If so, I would like to hear their opinion of it. Goran Canary Islands |
Thread: Chronos silver steel, water or oil quench? |
05/10/2010 08:24:15 |
The brine we have yes, and the volcano. Just two small problems. One is the distance as the volcano is at about 8000 feet and the brine at 0 feet, the distance in time I do not really know as the road is very curvy. Second problem is my supply of quality rope which will stand the heat ... Ray, at what temperature do you run the oven? I have read in some publications that there are two types of silversteel, one which should be quenched in oil and one type that should be quenched in water, that is why I asked. Thanks for the clarifications! Goran |
