Thread: End mills in a drill chuck |
24/09/2009 19:18:01 |
I cannot see it as a problem for taking small or light cuts with a 1/4" endmill or smaller - so long as you don't require the cutter to run true. Allot of effort goes into clarkson type collet chucks to ensure that they run parallel to the axis and true, there is no way you would get close in a drill chuck. So, its OK in some situations (so long as no one is watching!). Rob. Edited By Rob Manley on 24/09/2009 19:18:31 |
Thread: Malcolm Stride trophy or award |
24/09/2009 00:18:04 |
In 2007? Malcolm started the Nemett cup for his engines and it was run along side the normal prizes in the MEX. maybe this should be continued/restarted. Rob. |

Thanks for the interest Martin. Sadly im back off to uni next week so progress might slow some what. Although saying that, im hoping that i'll be able to use their lost wax casting facilities to cast the cylinders so im sure there will be more to report soon. I tend to update in dribs and drabs but when i feel something major has happened i'll post it here for those of you who wish to have a nosey ![]() Once this bike is built im thinking maybe a Rudge special in 1/2 scale or maybe even a black shadow if someone will lend me one ![]() Rob. |

Dougie, i had a look at your railway gun and must say it looks stunning. If you are going to be a terrorist - do it with something that looks nicely made ![]() |

I would visit http://www.arceurotrade.co.uk/ They supply ball screws and have links to various projects and forums which have descriptions and hints on this kind of thing. Rob |

Thread: Digital readouts |
15/09/2009 18:24:49 |
I have retrofitted a digital readout to my senior mill and have included photo's showing what i have done. The Z and Y are obvious but the X isn't. The scale is attached to the table and the sensor attached to the saddle with a steel cover over them to protect them from oil/swarf etc. The scale required packing out slightly as the saddle sticks out under the table. It works very well and i only lost 1/2" of travel in the Y. Everything is nice and beefy. Hope this helps. Rob. ps. ive just seen the photos and my workshop looks a total mess! I can assure you it gets tidied now and again! Edited By Rob Manley on 15/09/2009 18:27:53 |

Hey folks, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but here goes. After all the help received by Malcolm in the past and recently on my latest project I decided to start a construction website along the same lines as his one on google pages. His sad and sudden death only a week after I started it put a stop to it and it was only yesterday that i wanted to continue with it. It is under construction and will be for some time but i hope it inspires anyone to just get out and make something. I am happy to answer questions or help anyone if I can as Malcolm did for me - its just a shame that the only official picture everyone's using is with him look miserable as sin, not the way he was at all. The idea is that I will make the complete bike and be able to ride it! http://sites.google.com/site/halfsizedouglasmotorcycle Now you've read the post - get out into your workshops! Thread: Help - myhobbystore stole my thread |
10/09/2009 23:01:56 |
Please can someone sort out my thread in the IC topics area. When i open up the post, I get a page which has gone bad. It has a hobbystore advert in the middle of it and nothing else - no title bar, no sidebars, nothing and i cant do anything about it. Regards, Rob. |
Thread: Tyres |
08/09/2009 18:25:43 |
Thanks for the post guys, I've now concluded that manufacturing tyres is not an option. I have located some tyres which would be suitable but not perfect for what i want them for. The only issue i have is that they only appear to be available across the pond in the US and all the companies found will not deliver to the UK, one will but they want silly money and being at uni, this is not an option. Now, is there a kind cousin which would purchase these and ship them to me using the cheapest delivery firm possible and help out a fellow model engineer? Once it is more complete i will post a link to my construction website to let you fellas what this is all for ![]() Cheers all, Rob. |

hey folks, somewhere in the past i recall someone describing a way of making miniature tyres. Can someone help me in either giving me an accurate description or telling me where i can find information on this. Really they need to be able to withstand the kind of wear that a cycle would handle. I need to produce two 1.75 X 9.5" with a specific tread pattern. Rob. |
