Thread: Last catastrophe of Old Year! |
30/12/2016 15:23:52 |
David A Tuff When I started my apprenticeship with a medium sized electric motor manufacturer fifty years ago, Health and Safety was virtually unknown but if you were caught leaving a chuck key in a lathe it was immediate suspension without pay for the day. I'm sure though that this was to protect the machinery not the workers.. I only once saw this rule disregarded when a chuck key was propelled through the toolroom partition wall into the assembly shop next door. Luckily no one was hurt but it could have been carnage! Thread: Help from the younger generation! |
02/01/2016 12:53:57 |
For Christmas we gave our 5 year old grandson, already very much a budding model engineer, a copy of the Haynes Manual for Thomas the Tank Engine, an excellent book for the young engineer. He loved it but, in packing the car to go home, it got left behind with us. My wife phoned him to say we would post it on for which he thanked her but said Grandad would find it very useful if he wanted to borrow it. After this kindness lending me his prized book I really must make sure I get the long promised garden track for the 5in diesel shunter set up by his next visit!

Thread: Machining rubber. |
14/06/2013 18:55:39 |
Used to turn rubber in a university research lab back in the seventies. We froze it and kept it frozen with Liquid Nitrogen and that is mighty cold. It became absolutely solid and easily machineable. I am afraid at domestic fridge temperature you are on a loser! Dave (WhitchurchLad) |
