Thread: Moving and Storing a Workshop |
28/10/2021 22:24:52 |
Hi there. I may be moving soon into rented accommodation until I find a new house. Have some heavy machines but due to various back problems I can’t do much of the moving myself. Are there removal people who can reliably remove and store a complete workshop anyone know? It has to be in somewhere that’s heated I suppose. Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers. |
Thread: Best soldering iron for electronics |

Hi, I use Metcal soldering irons now. Have used Weller, Antex in the past which are good. But like the feel of the Metcals the best - nice flexible cable, good tips. Been in electronics for 45yrs .... BUT !! Really expensive so probably best to get less costly...... |
Thread: Finding articles in MEW |
19/07/2021 11:22:44 |
I have hundreds of MEW mags but have trouble finding a particular article. I'm looking for the CNC course for beginners that was published a few years ago. I've downloaded the xls sheets but still having problems. Is there a simple way to search for an article e.g. using 'CNC Course' as a search, or similar via the website etc ? Thanks for your help. Thread: Which software? |
07/02/2013 22:29:14 |
I've been using Google Sketchup which is a 3D drawing program thats free. I find it easy to use and has free tutorials, but I've only used it for fairly simple engineering designs. There's no way to export the design in .dxf format etc though. Best idea is to try a few of the proper engineering programs and see which one you get on with the best. Most have free versions with limited functionality to get a feel for them. It will take a while to get really familiar with a given program and some are more user friendly than others. MEW has had some suggestions on drawing packages in the past which would be worth digging out. Cheers. |
Thread: Sharp Swarf |
09/10/2010 10:02:24 |
Whenever I use my milling machine I end up with lots of needle like mild steel swarf that usually ends up sticking in a finger when I clean the table etc.
Does anyone have any tips on cleaning machines that would reduce this problem? I think I've heard of thin plastic like gloves that cannot be punctured by swarf etc?
Cheers, Mike. |
Thread: Grinding hss |
29/12/2009 23:13:55 |
Hi, could anyone give me a definite answer as to whether it is safe to use the SIDE of a grinding wheel (the normal ones that come with off the shelf bench grinders) for grinding drills and lathe tools? Or do I just use the front and end up with a hollow ground finish? Or do I replace the wheel with a different one? Lots of grinding rests and articles seem to use the side, but I thought this was a no-no. Thanks for your help, Mike. |
