"I had a similar issue with a trusted local garage. They changed the front spring on SWMBOs Focus" Trust the singular was a miss spelling Robert? Few years ago a main agent tried the same with me. Had strong words with the service manager about this. Spring only changed in pairs. Regards Ian. |

Will do that V8 when Cher changes the song title and yes Steve Pavey, Yackety sent me a letter stating now I was leaving, they would deduct payment in the normal manner and credit me with any over payment. Now that would be fine BUT DD was cancelled after the August bill was paid. New ISP starts on 13/9/22 so by my meagre understanding of maffs, I will owe 12/31ths of the September bill so it will be interesting to see their calcs. Any problems and they may well have to knock on the door, literally, for the return of their Super router. Regards Ian. |

Just changing from Yackety Yack, can't really warrant £34 a month for "Fast Broadband" - 11mB ( 8 actually) wire service. Alternative is the other isp thief with a name pertaining to young ladies for fibre. Don't understand how 11m can be classed as "Fast". New provider advertise 11mB but state 2 - 4?. Warp factor 9.6 is NOT required, just a cheap reliable service with a bit of honesty and not trying to break the bank in April. Unfortunately ISPs come on the bottom of the list of Gypsies, Tramps, Thieves, Car, Double glazing and Kitchen salesmen. Regards Ian. |

Thread: Telescopic Gauges - Technique? |

Sorry for the omission SM. My induction/enslavement was only a couple of years after yours and was instructed/directed by quite a few sexagenarians - thankfully, boy, those guys knew their onions. As Ramon has stated, in anticipation of a shallow bore measurement , first job would be to turn a plug gauge, the diameter of which can be easily checked and then 'Creeping up' to the required bore. Regards Ian.. |

Ask ten 'Engineers' the same question and you'll get ten different answers, the same applies to 'Feel'. Some rely on a certain number of clicks of the ratchet stop but that doesn't allow for the speed of spinning the spindle closed. Doubt with his skills Ramon would really need the extra 'nip' to ensure not pushing the bar back. Wonder what the blind machinists (NO slight OR pun) comparison measurements are using a Braille mic? The ability to get a 25mm measurement on a 25.1mm block is extremely easy for some and especially winding the toolroom foreman up "Can i borrow the 1-2" adjustable spanner. Feel is an acquired thing that applies when fitting parts together and don't even start to introduce tolerances. Regards Ian. |

No, Circlip was targeted and fell for a 'Genuine' Microsoft letter to change passwords. It clicked about ten minutes later when wife, sat six feet away on her own laptop (Different surname- living in sin) announced 'Do you realise that to get out of the Spanish hotel you are now in needs me to send you a 'loan' of £1000' Fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me. Anything unsolicited Gets the Phising button, mail wise recycling bin. And you don't have to be paranoid to realise clever unscrupolous b******s ARE out to get you. And Banks have no excuses where they have a yearly allowance for 'lost' money. Regards Ian |

Thread: motor insurance rant |

My new three year quote from SAGA informed me that the policy had been increased by more than 50%. Just finished the sixth year with no claims. I quote :- "New Financial Conduct Authority pricing regulations introduced on 1st January 2022 ensure price equality for renewing and new customers. So, while some existing customers may find their price goes up, the GOOD news is your price will be the same or lower than a new customer who starts a policy in the same way you did". OK., this is a house and contents policy But I'm sure the FCA regs may be tried to be used on motor insurance. After a 'Conversation', New price is now LESS than past quite of three years ago for same cover. Regards Ian. Edited By Circlip on 25/08/2022 10:48:43 |

Strange how at a previous time of national necessity, a fuel supply system was developed and actioned to feed RAF stations around the country. Thank heavens there were no private investors involved in that exercise. The need to save 10 minutes journey time between London and northern cities, as inferred in post No# - oh sorry, we still can't do that on this forum, - is crushed when it takes me milliseconds to have a face to face conversation with someone in the great metropolis electronically. Pity we can't do that with water. Regards Ian. |

Statement in covering letter re house insurance :- ""New Financial Conduct Authority pricing regulations introduced on 1 January 2022 ensure price equality for renewing and new customers. So, while some customers may find their price goes up, the good news is that your price will be the same or lower than anew customer who starts a policy in the same way you did"" Well whip woo, so much for customer loyalty.
