Thread: Headstock problem
01/06/2022 17:09:06

I have a problem with the headstock guard always rubbing against the gears producing noise.

when I move the lever as if to change the belt the headstock lowers a bit and stops rubbing.

the 2 pictures try to explain it.

when I’m turning is there supposed to be a gap under the headstock as in the pic, the other pic shows the headstock lowered if you were changing the belt.

thanks

Thread: Ml7 clutch trouble
01/06/2022 12:11:02

Hi,

many thanks for your continued help.

I’ll try the things you said, because I’d like to get this working properly or there’s no point having a clutch.

is was working ok a couple of days ago.

cheers

Hi,

I did screw the adjuster nut in and out but still didn’t stop the chuck from turning, like I said if I press the clutch lever in slightly the chuck stop so it seems like something is not contacting properly.

thanks

Hi,

thanks for replying.

yeah it looks like I do have those parts and like I said the chuck stop spinning if I push the handle in a bit.

obviously something is not connecting properly.

I think I’m missing a grub screw as in the picture, would that be the cause.

thanks

9cdf8cb8-467c-46a9-a94e-39a394b6ec1a.jpegHi all,

need help again I’m afraid.

when I activate the clutch the chuck is still turning although very slow unless I push in and hold the clutch handle.

I can’t seem to see where I can adjust anything.

also in one of the pictures it looks like I have a grub screw missing.

can anyone offer any help, I hope the clutch is not faulty and it we always be like this.

thanks

Thread: Riser blocks
31/05/2022 09:02:54

Hi all,

I want to get some sort of stand for my lathe, and buy a drip tray too.

the question is do you have to have riser blocks or are there some sort of alternatives.

thanks

a couple of things I need help if that’s ok.

in one pic you can see the tools I got with the machine, are they ok or should I buy some new one, also what’s the round one for.

another pic shows the first bit of turning I’ve done since school, along time ago.

it looks very rough to say the least, is it the tool I used or me or maybe the metal.

it not very good at all.

the other pic shows the tool towards the metal bar I was turning, if you can see it, my question is, the tool seems to be very low of the turning piece, should the tool be basically level with the centre of the piece your turning.

one last thing , can anyone recommend a good nvr switch.

thanks for all your help.

Thread: Which stand for Myford ml7
30/05/2022 15:17:00

Hi again everyone,

I have my lathe at the moment, cleaning it and adjusting it on a chest of drawers.

but obviously I would like to get something a lot better.

id obviously like the proper Myford stand, but they are selling these for ridiculous prices.

would I get away with some riser blocks and a drip tray on the chest of drawers or is this just asking for trouble.

any help appreciated as always.

cheers

Hi all,

I purchased a Myford ml7 at the weekend thru eBay from a guy in Milton Keynes,

looks like quite a good lathe. Needs a clean and a coat of paint tho.

the last time I used a metal lathe was at school so that was a long time ago, but I’ve always wanted one. So basically I’m a newbie and need a bit of advice about how to set it up and to make sure it’s running how it should.

I’ve posted a few pictures, what do you think.

some bit and pieces I got with the lathe, a cushman chuck, but I don’t have a key for this, any idea where I would get one, no key for the larger one also, don’t know what make it is.

what oil would you put in the oil feeders.

the disc with the bobble on it, what exactly is this for and as you can see the quick change post is missing about 4 screws, where could I get them.

many thanks for your help

regards

chris m…….
