Thread: FORUM DOWNTIME AND RESULTING ISSUES REPORTING

Right, video editing finished and you can forget everything I posted at 08:08:07. Having read your and Jason's exchange, I now realise that I need to select the required publication from the two archive options before logging in.. This then works entirely as it should. (I only subscribe to MEW and not ME.)

Sorry to have led you on a wild goose chase!

Off to find get a slice of humble pie to have with my afternoon cuppa!

Clicking "digital" on the black bar works for me as does magazines. BUT they open up a separate login page and then when you log in opens the current issue in the viewer so you need to click the three bars top right to select archive.

At the moment the "digital" route takes me to ME only and "Magazines" gives me the option of ME or MEW

Previously the usual route was "magazines" then select ME or MEW and then that archive would open. I suspect as the archive is on classicmags and the forum on ME.co.uk there is the need for the second login.

Edited By JasonB on 30/06/2022 14:43:43

Yep, that's it. On the digital landing page you should see a link for both ME and MEW

That's a vast improvement in archive access. Thanks. However, the link through the DIGITAL button doesn't work for me, it just takes me to the digital reader access page and when trying to log in, simply loops back to the same page. I have to access the back issues through the MAGAZINES button, as before. Not a problem, as long as you know about it.

I accessed issue one this way and noticed the "print" quality was still on the fuzzy side, so presumably the conversion of the copies to HTML has yet to be completed?

John

I'm not sure which link you are clicking John, can you do a screen grab or send the URL?

Russell

If you follow what it says below the filename you can call it what you like and specify where it gets saves. The right click drop down actually says "save link as " on my W10 machine.

Thanks Jason!

I am sure it is no easy task to transfer data from other sources and possibly in another format into an existing system.

However why close down the working system before proving the transfer of data was successful and the new system is working correctly ?

Emgee

Good question Emgee, it wasn't closed down as such, it was an in-house system at MyTime and it didn't come with the transfer, so we are rebuilding from scratch - if you log in now you should see it filling up.

"I also accessed a 2010 edition of MEW also with no problems. I have a print subscription."

Neil/Darren is there something wrong there Archive was for those with digital or print plus ?

Yes, there's not supposed to be access for print only. Leave it with me, I'll have a look

30/06/2022 07:11:17

If you hit the archive button (top bar, 4th from right) on Workshop, you should now see many many more issues.

I have just looked again and the available issues are back to March 2020 followed by three 2010 issues.

Hopefully they are working on restoring all the missing ones.

Martyn

Yes it is being worked on, it means generating LOTS of new issues but the new reader works about ten times faster than the old one and lets you customise and download PDFs at last!

Neil

We are working on it! Hopefully there will be a lot more up this week. What's slowing us down is the old reader had issue file names as the issue number, the new one needs a date to display them in the correct order - it's a manual and slow process!

The email service on the forum is not working for me. I can send an email to a forum member, but looking in the sent box, the message doesn't appear.

Andrew.

We are looking at this today

And now safe again on tablet? Dosn't make sense to me.

David

May be this problem, in which Android devices before version 7.1.1 have trouble with new certificates issued by a new certificate authority, notably "Let's Encrypt".

After change of ownership and being moved to a new server, the forum is now authenticated by a new Let's Encrypt security certificate. As David also has an old version of Android, the planets are aligned, and he's having bad luck! Could be a coincidence, but...

There is a workaround. It is to change the phones' Browser to Firefox Mobile. Seems that Firefox keeps it's own copy of the certificate and doesn't use the wonky certificate checks provided by pre-7.1.1 Android.

Dave

It looks like this is the problem older versions of Android do not recognise the certificate - the cert is in place though and valid.

We just had a bit of downtime! Hopefully no one noticed smiley

Anyone else not been getting e-mail notifications of private messages?

I'm not! And some people are not getting password reset emails either

Looking into it

18/06/2022 08:33:28

Sorry everyone, so busy I forgot to say that we are rebuilding the archive - starting at the latest issue working backward - it's a bit of an ongoing process but everything you had before will be there!

Back and secure again. Just checked the conection on here and the padlock is back. It dosn't show what has gone wrong again. Have the web provider changed anything.

David

Hi David, no, nothing at all has changed since last week

Login now instantaneous.

The Magazines section is not working for me. I provide my email address and new six digit customer number and get the message that it is incorrect. However, the link to classicmagazines.co.uk works fine with the same details.

Hi Graham, you're right, it's not working. Sorry if I wasn't clear earlier - we are working on it now and hopefully it will be up and running in the next few days

Looks like personal ads', "Latest for Sale Ads" listing on front page, right-hand column, are not updating automatically again.

Phil

Does it look ok now Phil?

Darren,

I must be doing something wrong, but I can't work ou what. I followed your "digital" route, dug my cover sheet out of the 'to be shredded' pile and input my details. (I am assuming my customer ID is the 14-alpha-numeric above my address on the cover sheet.) But I'm told that the details are incorrect. I also tried accessing the archive by signing in with my log in details, which are also wrong, apparently, despite allowing me to log on to the web site. Luckily, I have a reasonably full head of hair, but what now?

John

Your customer ID will be six digits.

Also, the login isn't working yet - I'm still trying to fix it!
