Thread: Jones and Shipman 540 Dripping |
04/02/2021 17:43:50 |
I've just aquired a 1968 540 which seems quite tidy. Sadly its stood for a while outside under a sheet so I've been exploring. ive removed the table to check and clean the ways which are ok. Piston rods are straight and clean. similarly the tank which wasn't too bad although the filter is broken. the biggest issue so far is the saddle, when winding manually it comes smoothly all the way forward but comes to a firm stop about 40mm towards the rear. Any ideas what's causing this ? either way I want to lift the saddle to check and clean the fore and aft ways does anyone have experience of the best sequence of actions needed to remove the saddle that they can share with me ? any pointers gratefully received paulm
