Thread: variable speed motor |

Thanks for the replies, but those types of motors appear to be too big for the space I have available. I am planning on fitting a Taig micro lathe (with 5C headstock) in front of the table of my Taig CNC mill so the mill drives a rear toolpost in the X & Y axes (now Z & X respectively for the lathe) for turning mainly brass up to 1" maximum diameter by 3" length. This all has to fit into the current mill enclosure which gives a maximum of around 4" diameter for the motor. This is to replace my current old East German HobbyMAT lathe that I converted to CNC over a decade ago. The problem with the latter is both backlash and being a bit too stiff for the Z axis stepper. I have given up trying to improve both of those and am now looking for alternatives - real CNC lathes are too expensive & too big. Cheers Edited By Derek Mackenzie on 28/02/2021 23:33:13 |

Does anyone have a recommendation for a 250W (or thereabouts) variable speed motor for a small lathe & mill? Preferably a reasonable price, quiet, small with speed controllable through Gcode? |

Hello, thnks for the replies. Looking at an index of ME it would appear from the dates that the Pardington Taliesin is probably the 1876 original version (with or without later modifications) - it is too early to be the 1999 "rebuild". It also appears from the index that the series on building the later version never happened. So back to square one. I have some drawings of the later version and a lot of photos, so I will just have to start from there. |

I have found the reference to the Model Engineer drawings - it was actually in Taliesin 2000 Newsletter No. 5 of January 1995. But I still do not know what issues of Model Engineer the drawings appeared in. Edited By Derek Mackenzie on 20/10/2020 18:16:11 Edited By Derek Mackenzie on 20/10/2020 18:18:28 |

Hello I am looking for plans for the FR loco Taliesin 2000. As one of the subscribers who paid for the actual loco to be built, I would like to make a 7/8" version to run on 45mm gauge. Just been reading David Payling's book Fairlie Locomotives of North Wales (highly recommended - definitely 5 star) and I seem to recall a reference in there to plans possibly in Model Engineer somewhere around 1995 to 2000. Unfortunately cannot find the reference again. Whatever plans were available (if any) would not be to the scale I require, but that is no problem. If anyone knows of references to these I would be grateful. I am really only interested in the details of the actual loco, rather than the model. The one I build will be variations on the parts I use for the G1 locos I build - see my website orion-models.co.uk. Alternatively it would be good to have access to the original FR CAD drawings for the loco. Most drawings done for modellers are a little small and do not give sufficient detail or dimensions. Thanks |
