Hi Mike, keep up the good work. I have a similar engine that has been modified to a vertical position, with a SLRG to boot. it was installed in GLENROSA , a 35 ft `steam launch with a low moor wrought iron hull of 1870 vintage. The hull was salvaged from a farm where it served for over 49 years as a water trough for the cattle. The launch has been converted to electric, commonly used from 1890 on. I have owned THAMES ESPERANZA, 1898 , a 52ft steam cabin launch on the Thames that was originally electricity powered. I will venture to my barn and photograph it in the morning. ceers Dave |

Good afternoon people , I am new to live steam models apart from soldering a 3.5” tank loco boiler for a friend some 30 years ago. A 5” Southern Schools Class , St Bernard Convent decorated my lobby for years, bought from a modellers daughter that attended the school in Slough. at 76 years, I am having difficulty in fettling my vintage and PVT sports cars due to the waiting for my second hip replacement, so I decided to find a nice bench hobby avoiding standing and walking. I live in Newbury and have all the kit from my business, including a TOS KURIM turret mill , a Chester mill , Harrison M300, an Ajax ? X 1009mm centre lathe, a 30 ton air/hydraulic press, vertical and flatbed linishers, double ended polishing spindle , TIG welders MIG WELDERS, OXY/ ACET ,anvil and a big hammer,a grit blast chamber, and a vertical slotting machine and plenty of lifting tackle. Recently, I produced a 32 hp marine compound as a replacement for an armed steam cutter from HMS Falmouth, currently being restored in Boathouse 4 at The Naval Base Property Trust at Portsmouth. I look forward to your responses. Dave

Good morning people, due to Covid, I am well overdue for my second hip op, and am unable to work effectively on my vintage cars, so repairing or building a steam loco would be an engaging pastime . I have acquired a 5” B1 Springbok and a Speedy, in unfinished or needing a rebuild. I made a 3 1/2” boiler for a friend 30 years ago, a task I found fascinating, and the bug neve I have operated a 52 ft Victorian steam cabin launch on the Thames for 28 years, and built a new 32hp compound for the armed steam cutter Portsmouth naval trust. Apparently, there are a number of errors in Martin Evans drawings, and I am inviting any advice to avoid future rectification. |
