Thread: Hi there
25/07/2020 10:40:58

Greetings to all from Perth Western Australia. My name is Pete and I work as an IT Tech.

About four years ago I tried to build a CNC machine from timber and bits and pieces. It was a flimsy affair but served to stimulate my interest in the field. Fortunately, through the CNC machine, I met a couple very experienced fellows who have been tremendously generous with their time and have helped me advance a long way from where I began. With their help I have since build a much more robust and serious CNC machine based on the chassis of a Taylor Hobson pantograph (1953).

More recently I got a Drummond Type B lathe (1919) from my father who had bought it for a few dollars 45 years ago and then "stored" it in his garage - along with a lot of other stuff of varying utility. I now have that working and to my amazement was able to make one of the knurled fasteners that holds the changegears in place. My goal is to restore this lathe and use it to learn lathe work.

I also have a Creality CR-10 3D printer which might find itself printing changegears in nylon as soon as I get around to building a drying cabinet for the nylon filament.

My primary reason for joining this forum is to learn and perhaps later, to contribute a little as I gain experience.

Regards, Pete
