Thread: Santa came early |

Santa came today he still had his red suit on but his transportation had parcel force on it , Multifix Aa with plenty of tool holders, so my job over Xmas is to get it fitted on my refurbished Pultra. lit always amazes me how things from abroad can get delivered faster than item’s from just down the road as it came from PeWe tools in Germany. |
Thread: What to use |

Thread: Lathe tool size |
11/12/2021 19:43:09 |
Thanks for all the replies so the general feeling is stick with the smaller 5-6mm so the next question is do I use a tool holder or pack the tool bit up if use a tool holder what to use. Dell |
11/12/2021 05:41:53 |
Thanks for the replies folks the reason for asking was that the Multifix QCTP that I ordered from PeWe tools will take up to 12mm, on my Derbyshire the largest was 5mm and they were easy to get centred, if I use a smaller tool when it can take larger won’t I need to pack it to get it centred on work.? Dell |

Is it a case with lathe tools that bigger is better , the reason for asking is I have just purchased a QCTP for my new to me Pultra 17/70 and it will take up to 12mm bits and only having used 5mm bits on my other lathe it got me to wondering. Dell |

Looks good Colin you can go in to edit mode in pictures on your phone and rotate it and save whenever I do it I have to rotate it when I post because even if it is correct on the phone it seems to rotate when posted but if you rotate it doesn’t very odd, I just rotate all the way round back to original and save. And yes I will post pictures when done spent yesterday rebuilding tailstock and quick close ( dish full of loose ball bearings) I have done it as well 😂 Edited By Dell on 05/12/2021 16:38:32 |

although I am going to strip it and paint in original colour …
. It matters not a jot, Dell … but I have to ask: What makes you think that green was its original colour ? MichaelG. The original colour was cream but I was unable to find a paint code for the cream and anyway the cream would show all the marks so I decided to use the green as it was the last original colour that was used on the Pultra’s Reseda green RAL 6011 . why has the pictures appeared twice Dell Edited By Dell on 03/12/2021 19:21:33 Edited By Dell on 03/12/2021 19:22:34 |

Thanks Clive I have ordered the sewing machine motor from sewit4you just got the manual from smart & Brown but I notice the shroud is missing from the front of the headstock so will have to find one or get one made. Dell |

Hi Colin yes I think my Multifix motor is noisy as well even though it had new bearings 6 months ago , I tried a sewing machine motor on my Derbyshire but found it rubbish, but I think you are on about industrial sewing machine motor,I was going to try one but then this Multifix came up but will have a look because I can always sell the Multifix for good money, not heard of the BLDC motor do you have a link to it ?. 164092634362 Edited By Dell on 02/12/2021 17:33:32 |

Hi Andrew i think that makes sense but just to get it straight in my 70 year old head the collet and drawbar are screwed together as normal the quick close just closes the collet to grip the work. Thanks for your help Dell |

Hi Colin i have only just enough room for my legs under the small steel bench I will be putting it on , I think you will find that the W20 Schaublin will fit the 15/90 as I spoke to Chris at Smart & Brown and he said that the Schaublin 10mm and 20mm will fit the 17/70 and 15/90 respectively. lf you could have a look at the quick close that would be great because I can’t work it out , I have ordered a manual from S&B but it’s not arrived yet it may explain it it. Thanks Dell Edited By Dell on 01/12/2021 20:34:54 |

I haven’t got the room for a Mardrive but I do have a Multifix motor that should do the job, I spoke to Tony at lathes.co.uk today and sent him a picture he said he hadn’t seen the like before either it’s a screw feed with a MT 1 taper he wants some pictures when it’s restored. I was hoping my Derbyshire Magnus collets would fit but although they fit the headstock the drawbar only just starts to thread onto the collets so I am on the lookout for some more Pultra collets. colin as you have a few Pultra lathes have you one with a quick close if so how the hell does it work ? Hi all I recently purchased what was supposed to be a Pultra 17/50 50mm centre well it arrived today and what a bonus it turns out to be a 17/70 looks tatty but the headstock is very smooth and no play although I am going to strip it and paint in original colour just waiting for a manual to turn up from Smart & Brown. |
