Thread: M&W Telescopic Bore Gauge
06/09/2022 17:16:07

Thank you to all those who helped with suggestions. Unbelievable as it sounds, I have found the spring! It was on the other side of the garage laying on the floor, and it is something of a miracle to have found it.

Cheers everyone,

Colin

Thank you all for the feedback, I will investigate!

Thanks, it is a tiny, long, powerful spring and I doubt I'll find one.

05/09/2022 08:52:23

Hi all,

I have a M&W Telescopic Bore gauge, 12.7 -19mm, and I have lost the spring out of it (don't ask) incredibly, M&W do not supply spares! A tool that they produce, but cannot supply a spare for seems mad to me, but has anyone any ideas where I may get one?

Thanks,

Colin

Thread: Quick Change Tool Post for Warco WM180
15/08/2022 15:08:24

Sorry to resurrect an ancient post, but is there any update on this topic? Is there any alternative to either buying Warco's QCTP, or modifying another make to clear the boss on the Warco?

Thanks,

Colin

Thread: Helicoil Help Needed
12/08/2022 10:46:32

We will see!

12/08/2022 10:39:42

350!

12/08/2022 06:15:17

No, not BMW - it is an old Ducati Single.

It is out! I tapped a tiny flat punch under the top and then eased a small screwdriver under the insert and bent the end in, was then able to unwind it with needle nosed pliers. The reason why the thread was binding was that the tang had not broken off, it was simply bent in and was holding the bottom turn of the thread off of its seat. Next step is to buy a kit and redo the job.

Thank you to all those who offered advice, you guys are the best!

Cheers,

Colin

Thanks for the suggestions, I have an idea of what to do now.

It will not be easy, the top of the helicoil is about a quarter of an inch down into the hole........Grrrrrrrrr.

11/08/2022 16:50:01

Thank you! But do I need a special tool to do it?

11/08/2022 16:41:54

I am hoping that someone can give me some advice.....

I have acquired an engine which has four cylinder holding down bolts, one of which has been helicoiled. When I dismantled the cylinder I noticed that the helicoiled one was binding and damaging the thread, and on closer inspection, the bottom of the helicoil is raised and bites into the thread on the bolt, damaging the thread and making it difficult to remove the bolt; it also looks like the helicoil is gradually working its way down into the hole.

I am guessing that when the helicoil tang was broken off it pulled the bottom of the insert out, which is acting like a spring. So, is there any remedy other than using a helicoil removal tool to extract the wire and starting again?

Thanks,

Colin

Thread: Which Collet Chuck?
02/05/2022 12:50:55

Hi Martin,

That is very kind of you, and I really appreciate the offer, but I will give it a miss thank you. Can anyone else take Martin up on the offer?

Colin

Thanks Andy, that is very good to know.

29/04/2022 17:31:12

I remember now why I did not buy a collet chuck a couple of years ago, it was because the reviews of the cheap ones were so bad that I did not think that it was worth it. Has the accuracy improved now or are the cheap ones still wildly inaccurate?

29/04/2022 13:34:53

Thank you for the replies, I really appreciate it. Hmmm, the ability to pass long stock through the spindle hole may be important, but the extra accuracy of the MT would be useful too. I will have to think about it.....

29/04/2022 11:16:49

I have just treated myself to a Warco 180 as a retirement present, and am considering getting a collet chuck, but am unsure whether a flange-mounted one or a MT3 mount would be better. Any opinions would be gratefully received.

Thanks,

Colin

Thread: Mini Lathe Vertical Mill Attachment
04/02/2021 17:03:13

I asked if it was suitable for the mini lathe but Warco didn't answer the question, just told me that it mounts in the tool post, which I already know....

04/02/2021 16:23:51

I contacted Warco and asked if it was suitable for the mini lathe, but received a useless answer, so I'm none the wiser.
