I take it you will be fitting a sound module? Can't have a traction engine without "chuff, chuff, chuff", can you? Also, realistic smoke timed to the "chuff". |

Thanks Andy. I can't say that makes any sense to me! I am so used to the quick and easy design process in Designspark, that trying something different isn't easy. Designspark lacks a lot of features, but it mostly does what I want to do. |

I use the same process in Designspark Nick, but I was wondering about Nigel's TurboCAD files. I don't know anything about the design process in TC. |

I did watch some youtube vids about TurboCAD. I couldn't see myself working in what I thought was the the only drawing option, wireframe, so I deleted the programme. Credit to anyone who can! Have you sorted your problem now Nigel? I will ask another question, just out of interest, It's a bit off topic. Are all the parts separate bodies (piston, cylinder etc) or all drawn in the same body? The reason I ask is that drawing all the parts in the same body was a mistake I made when first starting with Sketchup. Learning the basics of Sketchup helped me understand other cad programmes. Edited spelling mistake! Edited By lee webster on 06/04/2023 20:48:59 |

My greenhouse from B&Q also had a sliding door, until high winds ripped it apart and deposited the remains in a field behind me. I put the greenhouse back together, but the sliding gear was beyond repair, so I just used some door hinges. It has been "repaired" like this for quite a few years now. Just keep the hinges oiled. |

It would be interesting to see a side by side test of the same part printed on a resin printer and a ffd printer. I think the resin printer would win hands down in surface quality, whereas the ffd print would be stronger. But saying that, I have used resin printed patterns when sand casting a small flywheel and con-rod. The prints stood up to the process perfectly. Cost and time of the prints could also be interesting. |

Hi Nigel, I dont know about others who have commented, but I would like to see a picture of what you are doing posted here. Screenshots or images from TurboCAD are a rare sight! |

"Since first asking, and following ideas from various suggestions, I have found I can save the Model Space image directly in a .jpg format. " Can the JPG file saved by your cad programme be displayed properly on a modern computer? There may have been improvements made to the format of JPG since your programme was released. It could be worth doing a side by side comparison with an image exported from the cad software and a printscreen/snip.

Printscreen does save the whole screen. If I use it I will zoom to what I want to grab and use PSP8 to remove the bits I don't want. Most paint or graphics programms (apps?) seem to have a crop feature. My cad programme, Designspark Mechanical, doesn't export to JPG, so printscreen or snipping are my only options. |

Hi Graham, I use Win11 and it has the snipping tool. Try clicking on the four pane window icon in the task bar, click on all apps, scroll down to the S section where you should find the snipping tool. I also have Jasc Paint Shop Pro 8 on my computer. The programme dates from 2003 and runs fine. Like others who have posted I use Printscreen to save the screen image, go into PSP8 and paste as new image, carry out the work I want to do to the image and then export it as JPG etc. |

Took apart and primed the jigsaw table (see above). Mowed the rear lawn, Dredged some of the silt from my pond and found a newt alive and kicking, put him back in the pond and put the small fountain back in that I took out when winter started to freeze the water. That should aerate the water for the newt. Removed the weeds from my rhubarb patch. The rhubarb is growing very well at about 18" tall. I will pick some soon and give it to a friend, she cooks little treats for the local food bank. |

I wonder if the gears from a defunct angle grinder would do the job? You could pick up a grinder from a car boot for a couple of pounds. It won't matter if the motor is burnt out, and you can check the state of the gears by spinning the disc. |

I took a jigsaw table (not the electric sort, the little pieces that make a picture) that I've made for a friend for her to try out. It was very easy for her to fix the table at 30 degrees, and the pieces stayed in place even when the table was tilted to 60 degrees. I then mowed her front and back lawns with my battery lawnmower. I brought the jigsaw table back home to paint it. I didn't want to paint it until my friend had tried it. |

I had a Bako, (various spellings have been suggested, I don't know which is right) I also had a chemistry set. Not many of the chemicals tasted very nice, but I don't think they did me any harm. Saying that, it would explain a lot about my physical and mental condition. I also discovered that mercury could be bought from the chemist. It felt wierd swirling a ball of mercury around in your hand. I used the mercury as part of electronics experiments. P.S Don't ask me about cannons and bombs made with a certain garden substance and sugar, I know nothing. |

Duncan, have you tried saving the file as a dxf rather than exporting it? There could be an option in SE to save as an earlier version. Also, save/export might be set to only save/export parts that are selected, not the whole file. Edited By lee webster on 26/03/2023 16:31:01 |

I too run windows, and my scanner was reported as not connected. I had used it a week or so earlier, so I was a bit confused. I re-installed the software and it worked fine. The thing is, that computer isn't connected to the internet and has never had an update. |

I have to give a big thumbs up to Designspark mechanical. It's free, it needs to connect to the internet about once a month (Each time I use it I set my system date to the date I installed it. A pain, but I can live with that) I use DS5 rather than the newer DS6 because 5 can import step files, 6 can't. It will produce an stl file for 3D printing, but can't produce a detailed drawing, only simple drawings, which is fine for my needs. I have to admit that Solid Edge is by far the superior programme, and about a zillion times more difficult! (It could just be me). Out of all the freebies, FreeCAD is the free-est with a lot going for it. It will produce stl's, drawings and animation. The learning curve is almost vertical. |
