Hi Thanks for your replies. CES do in fact still supply the worm gear but no longer do the castings.

Thanks to Alain and Richard G. for providing the drawings I am now in a position to attempt a scratch build of the CES rotary table.

couple of things are beyond my remit and that is the worm wheel and gear.

My Q. is where is the best place to go in order to buy a ready machined Worm and wheel and more important how to facilitate it into the CES design.

Just completed the 3 main bearings.

On John Bentleys site the last thing he does is to bolt them to the sole plate and "Bed Them in " using his lathe as the power source.

When he says bed them in, is he referring to lapping ie using paste or is he just relying on the crank to bed them.

As previously stated my drawings are from 1975 and do not feature the exploded schematic as included on modern drawings.

I use this primarily to locate and identify small parts.

As any kind soul got one that they could send me.

Hi all

Just starting my 3rd stuart engine with a big challenge taking on the twin launch.

I got the kit off market place all intact but very old. The drawings are dated 1975 and are yellow with age.

Perusing said drawings my attention was drawn to the cylinder block and the pcd for bolting end caps on

The top cap says 5 holes eqi spaced but for the bottom cap it gives angles of 72 deg and 45 deg.

Any body know why as its still the same 5 hole config.

My little boiler is indeed too small being only 3 inches by 7 inches (oddment of tube in my workshop).

It was nice to see it running though, albeit for a short time.

I have built a little vertical boiler to power my Stuart Victoria.

Have had it running using 3/16 diameter copper pipe but my steam pressure drops rapidly.

Would I be better using smaller tube? Also i have invested in a ceramic burner (minus jet and feed pipe) the reccomended jet isa number 5 with an orifice of 0.02 mm.

Why is it so important when the fuel then immediately post orifice goes into a large chamber. Just wondering if anybody can enlighten me.

Found these in a joblot of taps & dies but have been unable to identify them.

The goid kadies of Google keep saying they are gas threads, which I very much doubt

The smallest 17g is about 1/16th and the latgest 12g is about 5/32.

Anybody have any ideas

Thanks for all the advice. did,nt realise it had to be bright red. Having watched numerous you tube videos and not one of them made reference to it.

will try again with the easy flow flux. any reccomended suppliers.

I got the tenacity from ebay. It had the proper label on it but white powder in a jiffy bag could be anything.

I have today had my first attempt at silver soldering and it was an abject failure.

I cleaned both parts to the nth degree finishing off in pickle bath.

The flux I used was J & M tenacity 5 and the filler was 55% silver 0.5 mm wire.

I was using a rothernberger torch and Mapp gas. The copper got plenty hot enough (dull red)but the flux never "glassed" over and the filler would not run.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated

Never having made a boiler beforr i was puzzled as to what size/ pressure i should be looking at for the stuart victoria engine.

1 inch bore 2 inch stroke.

Also where would I go to get it tested

Any advice would be appreciaed.

Duncan/Chris. Thanks for clearing that up.

Can you have a look at these pics and give your opinion on them as to whether this is the norm or not.

The forward port is slightly larger than the rear but its the positioning of same when piston is fully extended/retracted, how one has a bigger gap to the slide valve than the other

Hi all the attached picture(sorry for orientation) is from Andrew Smith, s book "Building The Victoria"

I am a bit confused by the highlighted text.

How can it be dead center and at the end of its stroke.

Am I missing something or is it a typo.
