I am looking for a Colchester Bantam 2000, the gap bed version - metric or Imperial. A well cared-for machine is wanted, and would be given a good home. Immediate cash payment for the right machine. Collection arranged. Can anyone help please? Jim Edited By Stuart McG on 06/08/2022 10:00:53 |
Thread: Taylor Hobson rotary table |
11/02/2022 09:40:44 |
I have acquired a Taylor Hobson 6" rotary table - see pictures, which is in good condition, but a bit 'gummed up' through lack of use. I would like to dismantle & clean it, but do not want to damage anything in so doing. Does anyone out there have any diagrams or other information on these tables which might assist please?

Thread: Colchester Student 1800 headstock bearing adjustment |
09/04/2021 19:34:01 |
The reply on the Colchester Group site is nonsense. With 4mm of movement, there would be virtually zero preload on the springs. The only free movement required at the springs is to account for thermal expansion, which would be nowhere near 4mm. I am guessing that only a few thou would be needed, but am trying to get at how they were set in production. I have been onto both Colchester and Gamet, with little joy. |

Does anyone out there know how to set the preload on the main headstock spindle bearings on the Student 1800 please? These machines are fitted with two Gamet taper roller bearings, the left-hand one being a spring-loaded P type. The maker's manual is no help. |
Thread: Cormak milling machines |
19/03/2020 08:33:32 |
The Cormak machines do look similar to Far-Eastern ones, but not necessarily exactly the same. Most people know that the quality of these machines from various sources differs considerably - from pretty poor (I won't name names) to quite good (e.g. Myford). What I am looking for is people with personal experience of Cormaks, not generalisations.

Does anyone out there have any personal experience of these Polish machines please? The prices seem good in relation to specification, but what is the quality like?
