The tools are new, just delivered from Proops, but now you mention it I seem to remember my old stuff with indexable tips being level with the top of the tool shank.

The tool tip is approx. 1.7mm over center, but that is since I removed the fibre washer from under the tool post, with the fibre washer ( behind the tool in the last pic ) replaced the tip is 3.5mm over center height.

If the top of the tip were level with the tool shank they would be perfect, pic to follow.

Thanks Oldiron

I'l check those dimensions tomorrow and let you know what mine is like and see if I can get a pic of the tools I have in relation to chuck center too.

I do remember that the cross slide is 1" thick as it was one thing I did check earlier.

Hi oldiron

There are no spacers under the 4 way tool post, just the indexing plate, however this lathe has a "T" slotted cross slide which wasn't fitted to my last machine, just wondering if this is thicker than the std cross slide ?

Hi Neil

From the base of the tool post to the tailstock center is only 10.5mm which seems very small for a 4 1/2" lathe and I'm sure the tools I had on the BUD I had were 1/2" with brazed on tips.

Hi

I'm new to the forum with a new to me Boxford AUD lathe which I'm currently getting to grips with.

I have had a Boxford lathe before ( BUD 11 ), but this one seems different in some ways which is a little confusing.

Can anyone help with cutting tool sizing as I seem to remember using 1/2" shank tools before and have just bought a set of tools with indexable tips but they are too tall when in the 4 way tool post with no packing.

What does everyone else use ?

TIA

Nigel
