Thread: Fobco Star switch

Like you - I'm somewhat 'electrically challenged' ! But when the hand-operated swtich packed up on my 1ph Startrite drill, I purchased a suitable foot switch and cable. Easy enough to wire it in place of failed switch.
IMHO a foot operated on/off swtich for a drill is always much safer for the operator.
There's loads of 240v 15A "foot swtiches" on Fleabay for about £8.

Agreed regards safety but I'd rather keep the machine as original as I can. Just me being old fashioned. Thanks for answering.

Also posted in wrong thread by mistake!

I have a Fobco Star, the type with the extended nose spindle. Single phase. My problem is that the switch contacts have burned out. I had no reply from either lathe.com nor the original switch manufacturers. I'm not an electrical person by any stretch but I am fairly sure there must be a modern equivalent that will fit. Websites are full of electrical speak, acronyms and numbers that mean nothing to me. Can anybody tell me where to get something that will be as close to original as possible?

Hoping to retire in a few years so just got myself a Super 7. Quite a lot smaller than I was used to when I worked in a machine shop but I'm sure it will all come flooding back.

Looking forward to getting building a few more stationary engines as well as bits and bobs for my 70's and 80's motorbikes.
