Thread: Boxford bolt-down |

Thanks Oldiron, I did wonder if the drilling might be a bit of an ad hoc affair! Girder clamps on the edge of the base angle might be an easier way to go and less precision needed.
Thank you Brian

Does anyone happen to have the layout of the floor-bolt pattern for a Boxford under drive type cabinet? I'm assuming that they are all the same........though that might be wishful thinking. I do not have the means to be able to lift my VSL LOO lathe high enough to see underneath nor tip it upsidedown! The motor/variator obscures the holes in the left hand end of the floor rail and prevents access to drill through from the top. |

Thread: Cleaning aluminium corosion |
03/03/2018 21:02:51 |
Having had a few decades repairing, building, maintaining and inspecting aircraft, usually made of aluminium alloys I know how difficult it is to minimize corrosion where they are exposed to seawater, i.e some helicopters and floatplanes. All corrosion products must be removed before renewing the protective surface which must be cleaned, dried, inspected and repaired frequently. Hi Geoff, it must be warmer in the winter in Diss than down here just above sea level where there's often a bit of winter ice, but this is an ICICLE............146 cms....................apologies to all for the wrong orientation, this noobies not yet learned the editing process! |

Hi Brian, Many years since I've been Acle way, not since I spent a boring time in one of those linear car-parks that appear from time to time between Yarmouth and Brundall! Main interests are R/C aeromodel/boat modelling and motorcycles, a rider since 1960 and currently use a BMW K75. The major UfP that I have earlier alluded to is a model 9 cylinder radial that I have been building for the past thousand years. When I resurrect it perhaps I'll post a build thread. Trevor |
Thread: What did you do Today 2018 |

This morning's diversion from happy domestic bliss started with the sound of an indoor waterfall when the washing machine pumped its water via the combi boiler's innards into the utiliy room before the incompatability of water and its electric guts tripped the power out! Hmmm, doesn't usually do that, but it did when the condensate was ''tee-d'' in to the waste above the washer outlet and the drips had frozen into a plug at the bottom of the pipe where it passed through the wall, a sort of internal icicle!. It was more than just a bit cool and windy last night in this part of rural Norfolk, could be worse, at least we've a wood burner. Trevor |

Thanks for the welcome Neil, yes I suppose that I should be more careful and put up a warning before mentioning the 'unmentionable', there seem to be a few of us with more than one such item gathering dust, going rusty, getting dented, robbed for parts but not quite forgotten! Trevor

Hi Pete, I've often passed through Bunwell on my way to or from Old Buc. for one job or another though that would be just the through road, never been in the old village itself. |

Thanks for the welcome Brian, yes I'm well equiped, or perhaps I should say that my workshop is!! It's not so much the want of new projects, it's the want of more play-time to get those that I have already started finished, but I'm sure that I'll get distracted along the way. |

Hi Geoff, lovely South Norfolk too, just west of Loddon. |

Hello to all, I've frequently lurked around the Forum to find information about machine or tool parts, and have usually seen an answer somewhere here. Now that I spend most of my workshop time 'playing with metals' instead of 'working with metals', I thought that I had better come out as an incurable swarf generator! Being self employed for the last 33 years of a 55 year work-life meant that the two activities were pretty well entwined, if a job didn't look interesting or challenging then I'd pass it up, but now that pensions will buy the daily crusts, it is time to press on with The Unfinished Projects of which there are more than enough! Loads of new things to try so I will be asking the vast collective knowledge for advice from time to time. Current machines are Boxford VSL, Emco FB2, Pollard Corona, TIG gear, H/V linisher, and all the usual electrical and hand tools that metal bashing needs. |
