Thread: MT end mills slightly corroded |

I've had some fantastic results with an ultrasonic cleaner on some old taps and dies. Evaporust is also very effective. Jim Very many thanks to everybody for taking the time to respond. I had NOT heard of Evaporust before today. I have discovered that the nearest supplier is over 75 miles away. Courier companies have extreme difficulties in making satisfactory deliveries to my home - so mail order is something that I avoid. Is Evaporust the same as Shield Technology RESTORE? I would be cautious about putting these End Mills in an Ultrasonic Bath in case the solution damaged the cutting edges. With best wishes and thanks again. MC

There is an edit button shown to the poster in the green bar above the post, but the opportunity goes away after a while. (Edited because I forgot where the button was) Edited By Mark Rand on 05/05/2021 11:44:07 I really would NOT want anybody to think I was American. I just have trouble typing! Why does the opportunity to edit "go away"? Perhaps that's an opportunity for improving the interface! With best wishes and thanks again. MC Black (Dr.)

Very many thanks to everybody who responded. Since I'm Clinically Extremely Vulnerable, I'm NOT going out a present so would like to use "stuff" that I have here if possible. Is Chestnut Product's "Nyweb" the same as Scotchbrite? How about the similar looking pads aimed at the Washing-up market.
I realised after posting my original message that there's an egregious typographical error! I know that it is possible to edit messages (because I often see a note that a message was edited) but how exactly does one do that please? I really do NOT want any readers to think that I can't spell! With best wishes and thanks again. MC

I have inherited some end mills with a MT2 shank which is mucky and mildly corroded. What is the best way to clean the Morse Taper. There is plenty of advise about cleaning female Morse Tapers but I would appreciate advice on cleaning the male Taper Very many thanks |

Also found this in a search from Chronos (who I have bought some tools before - decent quality I thought)
Are you aware that using the Discount Code SME1000 will give you 5% off of Chronos' list prices? MCB |

Thanks Tom.... I knew I was right with OOFLE... I will change the labels back when I get some more white tape. I don't know why I get bullied into doing things like this on such an important issue.... I can't thank you enough Tom. ...Bob... Why don't you ask your grandson to make the new labels for you. How old is he? He might like to read **LINK**and watch the films there? MC

I used a vertical slide on my Taig (Peatol) lathe to put slots into steel angle to build a rest for my bench Grinder. I will add a photograph if I am able to discover how to do so! If I fail (and if anybody is interested), please send me your email address OFF-LIST and I'll send it. With best wishes. MC Black (Dr.)

It's recommended to cancel the Direct Debit or Standing Order with your bank and NOT rely on it NOT being collected by whatever company is involved. Credit Card recurring payments are more difficult to cancel! |
Thread: Portable vice - buying advice sought |
29/04/2021 00:42:50 |
I didn't like the idea of using my (Record) vice as an Anvil so I bought a piece of Steel bar 6 x 6 x 1 inches. It's small enough NOT to get in the way and is a good base to hammer things on. It cost about a Fiver from a Metal warehouse. |

At first sight it seems that the writer of the article (who is not named) is discriminating against disabled (ie colour "blind" The closing bracket after colour "blind" was turned into an icon automatically by the software. I apologise for NOT spotting that. It seems a completely pointless function to me. There's legislation about discrimination against disabilities but defective colour vision is NOT classed as a disability by our legislature. In many cases colours for all sorts of things are chosen by designers (who - by virtue of their profession - are VERY unlikely to have defective colour vision) and no thought at all is given to how things will appear to everybody. Very many thanks to everybody who pointed out that they sympathise with the problem. |

I bought my workmate in the mid-80s so I could build a bench for the garage in my then new house. I still use it from time to time - especially outside for dirty jobs that I would NOT want to do in my shed-workshop. |

I have defective colour vision - I am an extremely protanomalous trichromat. I can NOT distinguish between the different coloured lines on the graph on page 60 of Issue 303. Only the lowest speed line appears different to the rest. It would have been much better for ALL readers with defective colour vision (around 3% of the population) if different sorts of dotted and dashed lines had be used rather than different colour. Or the different lines could have been labelled in the margin rather than using a legend. At first sight it seems that the writer of the article (who is not named) is discriminating against disabled (ie colour "blind" |

......, the results were sent on to the DVLA on January 12th. Just over 11 weeks later, I had a letter asking me so send the results! Still waiting.
It seems to me that it's worth paying for Registered Post in cases like this! MC

My late Mother was a little forgetful She was given a Field Test by her Optometrist. It was reported that she had defective vision and was referred to Hospital After several visits to hospital, it was concluded that there was nothing wrong with her eyes but she had forgotten what she was supposed to do with the button in her hand when lights flashed inside the machine. She was subsequently diagnosed with Dementia. The person administering the test should have reminded her to push the button when you see the light flash before every flash. That is obviously something missing from the Optometrist Training course!! Mother never drove a car; she was a little dangerous with a borrowed mobility scooter in department stores. We discovered that the big display stands move when hit by a mobility scooter. Riding in a straight line was OK but corners were more of a problem. |

Chronos are showing a pair of "ultra precision" vee blocks on their web site for £25.80 including VAT and delivery in a rather fetching wooden box. They are 1⅜ " square near to 35mm, so might suit your purpose, but how precision is ultra-precision?. Anybody thinking of ordering from Chronos might like to know that using the code "SME1000" give a 5% discount on the Mail Order price. Same discount to callers (when their premises in Dunstable are open) MC Black |

Sodium Hydrogen Sulphate (=Sodium Bisulphate) used to be the principle ingredient in TOILET CLEANER It was always recommended NOT to use both Sodium Hydrogen Sulphate and Bleach in the toilet at the same time as the combination generated Chlorine Gas (older readers may recall its use as Poison Gas in the WWI trenches). It may be worth looking at the ingredients of toilet cleaner on next visit to Tesco. MC

Have you considered going as far as you can with a taper tap and then grinding away the taper sufficiently to use what's left to create the full thread?

Think I sorted MC Blacks problem as it was 8 months ago, the ME accounts were all for the same person as other details matched Although the registration problem was solved, I have NOT been able to view the Archive using my computer because the two are, in some way, incompatible. I can look at the archive using my iPad but there's no way that I can print from my iPad. My iPad and my computer can NOT communicate. If anybody believes that he or she may be able to tell me how to do that, please send a UK telephone number and I'll ring so that I can be talked through it. With best wishes and thanks again. MC

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I did NOT know that I have more than one log in How can I find out what details are held about me? I need to talk to somebody about this because all this is making me VERY depressed With best wishes and thanks again. MCB Hi, I can let you have details of the accounts if you send me an email with the details of the emails you have or may have used to set up accounts and your address so I can check if it matches the profile. Obviously there may be accounts set up by people with similar names that aren't you, so I can't just send anything down as M Black in case it's someone else's account. Thanks Neil
Very many thanks for taking the time to respond I have send you an email message as suggested. Yours sincerely,
