Thread: Boxford shaper |

The missing pin secures the feed winder ratchet thing to the bull gear shaft. The hole starts at 0.2525 and tapers to 0.209 over 2.13" The original pin sat slightly down in the hole and had that dome end, uncut look. That is why I assume 1/4" imperial ??? On cursory inspection, the clapper box seems fine and dandy, but I am a shaper novice and wouldn't know what to look for yet |

I was so close to trying it out I will while away the hours cleaning up the vice and the clapper slide thingy |

I was storming along, new motor installed, all the bare iron sparkly after a dose of Scotch Brite with a palm sander, then splatt. I lost a taper pin. I am completely stuck. Of all the parts I could lose it is one of the more replaceable, so I want to get my order in to try and force the original out of hiding. Question, if I buy a 1/4" x 2 1/2" taper pin, will the other end be larger or smaller than 1/4"? Which way do they go? I have to go walk the dog, I will put some pictures up when I get back. |

Interesting... The vertical feed was an optional extra, which I do not have. However, most of it is there. Very tempting but I think that is for another day

Strangely enough, when compiling my list of things to do with it, "Use it" did not occur to me

I brought a Boxford shaper home last night then fell asleep in front of the telly. Went to look at it in the garage this morning and half an hour later it was all in pieces. I don't actually need a shaper so this is a bit like puberty, I don't know what will happen next. Will I clean it, fix it, repair it, paint it? I don't think it has been used much. It looks like the grease dried on the table slides, someone wound the handles once a year and found it was not improving, got bored and left it alone. It is in lovely condition, nothing I couldn't fix in an afternoon

I think they are made by Rong Fu in Taiwan which is why you often see an RF suffix part number. Look closely at bolt-on-goodies and ponder these questions... Will that restrict travel? Will it get in the way?

Thread: Warco green paint |

Hi Pete and mucho gracias Here is the grinder with its' turquoise splot, shown above, overpainted with your paint. I had to include an arrow so you could find the spot best
|

A pretty machine, expertly painted, but presumably without the Warco/Rong Fu car body filler, flakes the moment you look at it sideways when it turns to dust, blues |

Hi Pete Paint arrived and has been applied. It is a close match on the Warco surface grinder but a bit light on the mill. Mind you it would have to be magic paint to match both. Maybe it would do better if I could give it a stir, I think I have to buy a pot and experiment. Sample much appreciated, you can never have too much information, well, unless you work for SETI when all you have is information bestest Robin |

Hi Pete Wouldn't that be a terrible thing for me to do? To allow you to pay postage just because I am too mean to risk buying a pot of paint? To shrug off responsibility I suggest I try and send you my address in a private message thingy. An arduous task because I am no wild-eyed random button-clicking teen' and I doubt there will be instructions. Success or failure are equally possible putting this firmly into the lap of the Gods... Here we go Robin |

I bought a 30ml sample of Resenda Green and it doesn't match. This RAL colour matching seems to be a bit of a lucky dip and my confidence has been shaken Automotive sounds more cellulose than enamel. Paragon Paint's Warco Machine Green is probably the way to go but not until I am feeling flush |
15/06/2022 12:22:08 |
Paragon add on shipping and VAT making their smallest pot of semi-gloss Warco Machine Enamel around £24. The Reseda Green match pot has made me nervous about leaping to such extravagances. |

Update: Got a 30ml sample of Resenda green and it's not right Think I will try the Pinnacle Warco in semi-gloss then report back |

8 YEAR PROTECTION... Blimey John, shame Warco didn't know about this stuff before they painted my machines I don't think they make envelopes big enough and why have you got cellulose instead of enamel? However I am still sorely tempted to take you up on this most generous envelope offer, it's the monkey in me, little blighter has to stick his nose into everything and take a jolly good sniff. It'll be the end of him one day but what can you do? |
05/06/2022 14:04:03 |
Reseda Green eh! Nearly a tenner cheaper and none of your gloss, satin matt gobbledegook either. Much appreciated, I'll give it a go |
05/06/2022 13:22:54 |
I don't actually have trouble finding Warco Machine Green paint, in fact my problem is having too much choice. Gloss, Semi-gloss, Satin or Matt? |
05/06/2022 13:18:21 |
Paint matching in Dulux? No need to worry about mixing cellulose and enamel, bung it on with a distemper brush, I am so tempted. I have an old Warco Major I painted in Hammerite smooth, now crying out for a good splosh of emulsion. If only I had your devil-may-care liberated mindset. I blame my parents |
05/06/2022 11:43:18 |
Dear old Warco used to sell pots of their paint for when your machine got the chips, now they only have aerosol cans. Glum face. Paragon have "Warco Machine Green" in pots starting at 500ml. I was reaching for my plastic but then they asked, "Gloss, Semi-gloss, Satin or Matt?" Oy vey, see how they complicate my life. I would guess Semi-gloss, but does anyone have actual experience? |
Thread: What Did you do Today 2022 |

Adding Belleville springs to my anti-backlash nuts, but were the numbers right? I rigged my press to apply 235kgf with a 2.5kg dumbbell weight on the handle and got 0.23mm compression on the DTI. Spring data sheet says 2217N (226kg) for 0.24mm. I was amazed. l don't usually expect these things to work |
