Thread: Myford ML7 for turning Aluminium
04/11/2016 18:05:48

been looking at a myford ml7 lathe. Doing some research seems that you need high rpm for turning aluminium. The myford ML7 doesn't seem to go above 8/900 rpm, will it be any good for turning aluminium?

Ahhhh bikes, my true passion!

Ride a Honda Pan European for work, have an SV650 Minitwin Spec track/racebike, and the trusty commuter Yamaha YP 250R.

Used to Have a Triumph Daytona 675 which I loved and gutted I had to get rid of it a few years back! Looking forward to next year as going to get something new, possibly FJR but not decided yet 🤔

Hi Curtis,

A similar topic has been discussed before, have you read these:

I own a 290 lathe for a few years, it has a 3-phase motor run from an inverter. I have had no problems so far. I don't have the milling head that mounts on the rear, but a separate bench mounted milling machine.

Thor

I did a search but didn't find anything so thanks 🙄👍🏻

Any thoughts/comments on this? Am looking for something to initially make my own levers/parts for motorcycle before expanding my horizons. Space is a little tight so thought this might save some, however don't want to compromise quality.

Does anyone have a link to help me understand the various terminology and measurements used for when I'm comparing machinery I'm looking at. For example what does throat distance, end milling capacity and Quill stroke mean, to name just a few!

Looking at getting myself set up to engineer some parts for my track bike such as levers and foot pegs and even fancy the challenge of building a model engine, heck even my own bike from scratch if i get any good!

will be browsing the forum for advice on what equipment will be best and posting lots of silly questions i imagine!
