I think Golden Flash was a BSA model not to be confused with the Gold Flash or the Rocket Gold Flash, but there again I could be wrong.

Martin, I have been on 21 hours a week now for 3 years since turning 65, I have a couple of days left to work this month and then I will fully retired from toolmaking after 52 years.

I have done enough.

Hi Chris,

My son who lives in Sketty was really frightened by it, his house really shook but as I said I didn't feel anything and I live on the Gower a few miles west. Yes, we have had our fair share of rain.

17/02/2018 21:18:01

I didn't feel a thing and it seems to have been 15 miles away but I was in shed.

I bought a 3 axis DRO from China in 2016, seller was cncmotor on the bay cost was about £220, arrived on time and has proved to be faultless. Need a two axis now for the Myford super 7.

You are right Colin, 59 slimline with 54 all alloy comp engine, bought off the bay in stripped condition, but included all the right bits and turned out a lovely bike

Only thing that comes to mind is find 10mm dia shank old end mill and grind two flats on the sides with cutting rake on the face and broach it out in mill or pillar drill.

Thread: What did you do Today 2018

I am retiring end of March after 52 years of tool making including my apprenticeship of 5 years working first in inches until around 1980 then it was metric which was a massive change, but a change for the good as far as I could see, once you get into the swing of it is quite easy to use. I still find letter or number drills scattered around in my tool boxes, and can still remember tapping drill sizes for various Whitworth threads

Being employed by a worldwide company I had drawings in metric from Europe and Asia and sometimes drawing in inches from America, I can work in both because I have to.

As an aside Newtons are used to measure the force required to move the gear shift lever in your car if you have cable change, different car makers have different limits, 1 to 4, 4 to 6 or 6 to 8 Newtons , it use to be ounces but that was long time ago.

I use the last 5 second method on most things I really want, I decide how much I want to bid and if I win great, if I lose it then it was too expensive, never get into a bidding war early on.

It's nice to play with cars that aren't full of computers. I had to sell my vintage cars to supplement the pension when I took early retirement but do miss them.

My 90 year old Triumph motorcycle has sensors........my ears, eyes, nose and hands, they tell me when it's running okay.

13/01/2018 16:44:00

I started to build a kit car 15 years ago but I moved to a house that didn't have a garage so I gave it all away and now I have a few sheds in the back garden where potter and play with my collection of motorcycles

Wonderful machines motorcycles.

Whitaker's ring....... in Chapman's !!!!!!! first time I heard/read that was in college and that was over fifty years ago, Chapman's was a great book, what was the blue text book called? maybe first year engineering or basic engineering? I remember it wasn't very good.

Sorry I went off topic.

I bought a taper cup wheel 100x40x31.75 5A 60JV from Midland a few weeks ago and having read thread prompted me to check mine and it had same problem, the other plain grinding wheels I ordered were okay.
