Thread: Quick change tool post |

Hi I have a Clarke cl500m and want to change the tool post as its a pain to keep shimming. I would like to put a quick change tool post on it but not sure which one will fit? There are a few on a well known auction web site ? I have just watched a youtube video which shows making a new central bolt to 14mm diameter to hold the post so even more confused now as it also shows drilling the slide to 14mm which means there is no going back. Has anyone already done this modification and if so what did they buy so I can bolt it on regards

Thanks I have now found both versions of the manual. The manual is not very well illustrated and wondered if anyone could help me with another question The lathe says its 6 speed but cannot find the gear configurations for the 6 speeds Any Ideas cliff |

Thanks for the reply but after trying everything went for my tea and when I came back figured out what was wrong. On page 21 on the chart it says for turning( factory set) 30 A 60 B 27 C 42 D but when you read on to the other page it says 30A 60 B 27 C 63 D basic setting for turning. There is no physical way you can do it if you read page 21 but page 22 works fine. Thanks for your help anyway and I might be in touch to ask you more about this lathe/mill as I am still learning.

Hi I have purchased a used cl500m lathe and am having trouble with the gearing. I thought the speed was too fast for turning so removed the gears to see if the previous owner had it set up differently. I followed the guide on page 21 of the manual but cant seem to get the gears to fit? If I follow the instructions when I fit gear B 60 teeth it seems too big and hits the middle of gear D which has the nut on it. It says the gears for turning are 30, 60,27 and 42 but when I follow the guide it just will not fit. does anyone have a photo please. any help much appreciated cliff
