I thought I had posted at least two reply's to people's suggestions. But now I look there not there. So here I go again,

I built Rose to the words and music as they say, having had no experience of spirit burners before I just expected it to work. It has the chicken feed system in the tender which worked well once I got the tank airtight. The burner seemed very prone to the slightest breeze and when I tried the blower the pressure dropped back drastically like it was drawing too much air. I have used glass fibre for the wicks but may have it too tight. As for 1/2"" above the burner tube and 1" below the barrel for the wick, I don't think there is room. As for soot this dose not seem to be a problem.

Six 3/8" wicks using meths as the spirit.

Can anyone help with getting spirit burners to produce more heat.

I've just run my loco on meths for the first time. Have used a temporary gas burner until today. The results were disappointing. Anything more than the slightest blower opening killed the pressure. And as for opening the regular! It ran for about 40 seconds before it waved the white flag. I'm a novice when it comes to spirit firing so any hints ,tips or advice would be very welcome.

It's a 2,5 in gauge loco.

I've kind of answerd my own post after Being nudged I the right direction by this forum. If anyone's looking for drawings/inspiration as I was, try The Lancashire and Yorkshire trust scanned PDF drawings of wagons ect. Just what I was looking for.

Thanks for the info/advice. I actually would like to build from scratch, hard wood frames and body with steel reinforcing plates. Also I would make the W irons and brake rigging This is what I enjoy doing. Having read the various posts I think I would be better finding full size drawings and scaling from them. I'm a long time member of the embsay and Bolton abbey heritage railway and embsay has a excellent book shop that probably has a book dealing with wagon construction. As a last resort I could have a wander round the sidings at embsay with a tape measure and a pencil and paper.

I've been saving all my brass swarf for some time now as I figured I could melt it down and cast it. Can any one advise me on what I can use an a crusible?

Any one know of any websites that have rolling stock plans to download,preferably free. 2.5 in gauge or gauge 3 but any gauge if not. I fancy building a wooden bodied private owner wagon

Here are photos of my first finished loco, as promised in Victoria thread, named Grace after my Daughter. I'm still hoping photos of other examples of Rose will come to light. Just noticed I've still to fit handrails, so not quite finished yet.

Your an early riser, thought I was bad for not being able to ley in bed on a Sunday morning. Rose is currently spirit fired, the coal fired boiler is under construction. I modified the tender design so it can hold both fuel type's, sacrificing some water space for the spirit tank under the coal space.

Thanks for replying. I bought the drawings from the national 2.5 in association in May this year. I've only just noticed that it's your name on them. I've finished and assembled the frames with all the holes drilled and have started the cylinder block. There really doesn't look to be room for the axle boxes to move up and down when the cylinder block is in place. Could you possibly tell me what dimensions were alterd on the later drawings.

I take it that you have never seen Rose in the flesh, surely mine can't be the only one. I chose to build Rose as I found the original articles free to download on wwwjohntomsteam website and on studying them figgerd that I could make and fabricate everything but the wheels so the cost would be negligible, an important consideration with me being a half Scottish Yorkshireman. I would love to see it painted in GER ultramarine blue,but my painting skills, or lack of, would not do it justice so it will be unlined LNER black. Photos will follow soon.

I'm not new to the forum,it's just been some time scince I last posted anything. I'm building LBSCs victoria a Southern railway 0,4,4 roughly baced on a Billington D3 in 2.5 in gauge. I was wondering if anyone has built this loco as I've noticed that the rear bottom cylinder bolting holes are so close to the front axle that the cylinder block will foul the the front boxes. Any suggestions will be gratefully received.

I finished LBSCs Rose a couple of months ago,I'm very pleased with the finished loco and would like to hear from anybody else who has built rose as I've never seen another one and cannot find any photos on line.
