Thread: Denver & Rio Grande C19 |

Hi Ray. That is indeed the locomotive I'm referring to. I wasn't aware that it was Milner design, so thanks for that, I will add that to my searches like you suggested. I have seen the ones that station road had for sale, and they were very impressive. Ideally I'd like to visit a track where this engine is frequently run so I could have a good inspection of it and a talk with the owner etc. Thanks for your reply Ray

Hi all. I have been searching the site and also the internet regarding information for builds of the D&RG C19 locomotive in 7 1/4 . I have not found any information or topics regarding the construction of one of these in this gauge. Could any of you point me in the right direction for any information related to this or also if any of you know where someone runs one at a club. Thanks in advance. Ben. |
Thread: Any air experts? air ammeter needed |

Hi Ian,
The SKF detector is about £900 +VAT from what I can see online. There might be a newer one out now or something but that's the price that's online. I wouldn't want to drop it .

At work we used an ultrasonic leak detector. Our compressor room if extremely noisy with 7 large oil free 2 stage compressors screaming away. It comes with noise cancelling ear defenders which connect to the detector. The detector itself has some sort of crystal in the end which becomes "excited" when in contact with an air leak. This the actually gives you a totally individual sound of each leak. You can even get a rough idea of the size of the leak, it sounds that good. It will also guide you to the leak if your in the rough area, as the crystal becomes more excited you will hear the leak becoming more intense.
I'm NOT connected to this manufacture in anyway, its just a useful piece of kit we use. I'd imagine that you would have to take all the panels off anyway to attach a "meter" of some sort. We've found loads of leaks all over our site, ones that you wouldn't hear or feel before. Hope this helps.

Thread: Your recommendations to a total beginner looking to use CAD software? |
15/08/2015 22:18:33 |
Hi guys.
Thanks for you helpful replies. I have downloaded Google Sketchup as recommended by Russell. I know its not the "full package" but im having a play about on it and its giving me a rough feel for 3D drawing etc before I commit to spending any money. Saying that, one member above I see has mentioned his bought Turbocad 18 for £9.99 so I will look at something like that. I work shifts on my own so will usually have plenty of time to study it. This may be a naïve question, but If you have drawings for an item and you created the 3D cad version of it, could you use this and print it out on a 3D printer and then use it as a casting pattern?
Thanks for you help. Ben. |

Hello. This is my first post to the forum ( not sure if in right place ) and I have been reading with great interest other threads on different topics and found them all very helpful. I now have my first question. Me and my Dad are looking at building a 7 1/4 gauge Denver & Rio Grande loco. The drawings are supplied by Reeves and I would like to know what your experiences with Reeves are like in terms of customer service? I have also looked for other suppliers of the drawings and castings for this locomotive but have found none. Thanks in advance. Ben.
