Thread: allchin royal chester

Hi Guys

ive finally managed to get myself a milling machine and a lathe and hopefully very soon will start to use them

my question is the person i bought the lathe and milling machine also has a Allchin traction engine kit forsale which i belive may be 30 years old but has never been started

they suspect the kit itslef is 90% there an was originally bought from reeves 2000

this is the reason why ive bought the enginnering equipment i desperately want to start building one of these but i have no enginnering background and am a complete novice

the only think mechanical ive ever built is a kit car, with that you had a build manual from which you purchased parts then put together is this kit the same do you buy parts and put them together or do you machine the items from drawings?????

Im a bit confused with it all i have no idea what the kit is worth, i dont know as its an older kit if the rest of the kit is still availible from reeves??

am i bitting off more than i can chew i am in no rush to build the kit yet if i were to purchase it as my skill level is very basic

any advice you guys can offer will be great

Nathan

Thread: drill press / mill?
12/01/2015 11:21:57

Hi everyone

Ive recently purchased a second hand warco FB12 heavy duty drill press

its a fair size and was thinking of trying to convert it to a milling machine it has 3/4 hp and a minimum speed of 250rpm i think its 2mt and has a 20mm chuck

I know its not going to be the same but its a start as i am a complete novice and simply cant afford a mill at the moment

there are a few compound tables for sale on ebay and have seen one in the axminster catelogue wast just wondering if any of you guys have any experirnce with this???

Thanks Guys

It looks as though i got lucky on a impulse buy the Lathe is the austrian version i think, i didnt get much tooling with it, this was why i wanted to ask about the machine before i bought some i onlr realkly have a three jaw chuck and some cutting tools

this then leads me onto my next questions

Is there any tests that i can do to make sure the late is set up correctly???

What would you recomend tooling wise i should get in order to start some very basic begineer projects??

Hello everyone

I have just registered and really want to get into model engineering Ive been to the model exhibitions at Bristol for the last few years any every time it blows me away

I have an emco compact 8 at home which i bought for about £300 as i thought it was a bit of a bargin it has soome tools with it not much and as i was in a mad rush to try and get into engineering I didnt do as much reasearch into the lath as i should

I am wondering now before i spend money on buying more tooling have I bought a good machine??

I am a complete novice to using a lathe ive made a couple of small items for my kit car but thats about it

I know to get to any standard takes time but i just want to make sure i have a sensible platform to start working from on the meager budget that i have???
