Thread: Anyone know about audio recording people?
21/08/2022 13:11:32

You diagnosis is correct, this is cross talk with a slight delay. Where were the microphones placed? If you use lavalier microphones on the clothes this should work OK. The distance between the subject and source of interference is then large enough. It is easy to look for an insult here, please don't. Alternative is using directional microp6pointed at the mouth of each person.

Just checking, there was no loudspeaker amplifying the recorded sound at the same time?

Thread: Proxxon mf70
05/01/2022 08:55:43

I have a Proxxon TBM 220 and love it. It drills up to 6 mm and has a very stable quill. No idea if it fits your requirements.

My big 2nd hand Huvema column drill also has a very rigid quill. It drills up to 16 km and weighs about 70 kg.

I sure like this thread, so please keep up the good work! I'm curious how it will look in the end.

Thread: Attaching a wooden disc to a Rotary Table without break through
10/09/2021 07:04:24

Do I understand it correctly that you want to be able to reattach the wooden platter? The magnet suggestion seems great for that purpose. You want to use it as a plotter table?

Thread: Hello from the Netherlands

I too visit de Lokloods regularly, but Kelders in Boxmeer is unknown to me. What is it that you buy there?

Thread: Threading myth .... busted!

I also never turn the compound slide for it and also do more or less coordinated action with the two handles. Saves a lot of time on my mini lathe. My thread cutting dies also just plunge in

Welkom Maarten!

I'm in Nijmegen and love this forum. I use my tools to make more tools and do repairs and modifications in and around the house.

Thread: Is there a Gitzo tripod expert in the house ?
24/08/2021 08:38:16

I have only 1 Gitzo and it's an old and sturdy beast. Do you need to tighten the locking rings hard or can you use less force? This might it easier to release them. If you need to tighten them hard maybe there is something wrong?

Thread: 3ph motor running slow
22/08/2021 12:38:39

Maybe it is indeed an induction motor instead of synchronous. Is there a way to check? It is certainly not an universal motor as it has no brushes. I have a VFD still unused. So if that is the best option I can use that one. But I really hoped the capacitor would do the trick as it seemed a lot simpler to mount and use.

Thanks for all replies!

Fellow ME's,

I bought a 2nd hand woodturning lathe a year ago and am trying to get it to run. I removed from the lathe for wiring and testing and it runs extremely slow at about 60 rpm instead of 2160 rpm (1 turn by second) and can be stopped by hand. It is self starting from all positions, I tried 8 positions 45 degrees apart.

It was wired for 380V 3phase, I rewired the motor for 230V 2 phase according to the schematic on the motor and use a run capicitor to generate the extra phase. It is an old 1/3 hp synchronous motor which runs freely when turned by hand.

I tried a 20 muFd and a 10 muFd run capacitor, both with the same effect: reliable start but very slow running.

Can anyone help me to find out the problem? I can send pictures if needed.

Kind regards from the Netherlands.

I can imagine that artist colours aren't formulated for wear resistance and adhesion.

Thread: Inverter drives for single phase motors
08/04/2019 18:33:15

You want to use an inverter as a variable frequency drive? I don't know how much you can vary the frequency for a sine phase motor without it stopping. The capacitor is optimised for 50 or 60 Hz and I don't know if it generates a good phase shift at half the frequency.

An alternative can be to remove the capacitor and power the motor as a 3 phase. For some single phase motors this is possible. Not if it starts with a centifugal switch I think. But if it has 3 identical windings it is possible. Then power it with a 1 to 3 phase VFD.

Thread: Natural gas for TIG welding
01/04/2019 11:36:09

Wow guys,

You really are quick in realising the date! Sorry gentlemen, I couldn't resist the temptation to try a joke.

I did resist buying that welder and bought a lightweight ARC-only instead. The price of all additional stuff was to high, and that is mainly the price of the bottle of argon gas.

Hi all,

I received an inverter ARC/TIG welder and will try this out this evening. I noticed that it needs gas for TIG welding and that argon is really expensive. Therefore I am thinking of using natural gas for displacing the oxygen in the air. Has anyone else tried this before?

this is the welder:

Thread: Problems with a breadmaker
23/09/2018 15:28:41

We aRe on our third Panasonic. We bake daily, sometimes twice. Number one was used until the anti stick coating was gone in many places. That seems to be the weakest part, also in the replacements. But they are really good machines. I guess we get about 1000 breads out of a machine, so that about 10 cent per bread.

We vary a lot in recipes and sometimes they breads are even, sometimes not. But it always tastes vastly superior to supermarket bread!

And what kind of plane will it fly? Any idea for a airtank? Or am I getting carried away?

Very nice! I am very interested in compressed air engines and would love to see a plan or sketch. The porting is I n the rear of the crankcase? Can you explain the mechanism a bit more? Just 1 opening in the stationary part?

Thread: kitchen fan speed control
02/08/2018 09:03:41

For silencing a rather loud ventilation fan I wanted it to turn at a lower RPM. I wired a 230 volts light bulb in series with the fan. By changing the lightbulb to a different wattage I can adjust the speed. A higher wattage means a higher RPM. Not a continiusly adjustable speed and some heat lost in the lamp, which faintly glows. But it is an easy method.

got a few old blunt and broken files.

thinking of making folding knife out of one was wondering how difficult to drill?

does it need any particular drill bit or certain speeds?

I'm an expert on this after watching 'Forged in Fire' on telly!

.......

I'm not sure if there's a good reason for drilling the tang AFTER the blade's been hardened. They all do it that way. Possibly the hole causes warping if drilled before tempering.

.......

This is all armchair engineering!- If someone who's actually done it answers, believe him first!

Dave

I also watch a lot of forged in fire. One strange thing of this show is that they never show the tempering of the hardened steel. But they do this between the takes. Sometimes they mention something like "now that the blades are tempered ....". In the tempered state the metal is still hard to drill but not as hard as in the fully hardened state.
