Thread: Water Tank for Wagons

I used a plastic storage box with a clip-on lid

I drilled several large holes in the bottom of the tender to let any water out and mounted the box on some 10mm blocks for the same reason.

I've had no problems at all, no leaks and it was cheaper than brass. There was also very little work involved in making the outlet and fitting it to the bottom of the box.

It's at the club but I can take some photos tomorrow.

As a forum, it's pretty moribund but you might get the information you want.

Are you located in France?

I'm in the north of France, nearer to Brussels than to Paris. Postcode 59400.

I'm a memebr of the club in Oignies: http://www.cmcf-oignies.com where there is a number of amateur metal-bashers.

For materials, we usually manage to find someone in the club who knows someone who can get offcuts, etc.

Otherwise, it's on-line to order things.

We're only a hundred or so km from Calais so we take a day trip to Alexandra Palace every year.

I can confirm that it is a refernce to the colour of the machine.

The chocolat colour is said to have been inspired by the colour of the uniforms of the Rothschild family's domestic servants. Rothschild was a major investor in the "Chemin de Fer du Nord".

Thread: Black 5 blast pipe
17/05/2016 13:15:54

The figure 42 seems to be 1 5/8 in millmieters.

The rule of thumb I was given is that the blastpipe nozzle should be 1/7 the diameter of a cylinder.

This rule totally transformed my machine; before it was gutless, difficult to steam and prone to enforced stops due to low pressure. Now it steams beautifully.

A cap head screw and an allen key with a ball end. A bit crude but very cheap

Polly/Bruce sell exactly what you want. Page 53 of their catalogue. They also sell reduced head 3mm screws.

Before buying the rivet head bolts, I tried theading some rivets - a long winded waste of time,, I had such difficulty holding them while threading with a die.
