Thread: Need a source of exploded drawings for VERDICT DTI's |

Hi All, Anyone have any idea of where I might find some exploded drawings/workshop manuals for VERDICT DTI's? The makers MJ ALLEN no longer support the earlier types and I have about 40 or so that need various cleaning and fixing. Chgeers, Martin |

Hi Ian, I did not fit the limit switches. Unit has been Soooooo useful and I thank you again for all your help with it. Problem does seem rather odd. Martin |

Pretty sure it is a harness makers tool. The folding bow is very similar (but larger) to antique folding corkscrews. SNAIL brand tools are very collectable, I always get very high prices for mine when I get them. Cheers, Martin |
Thread: Power X Feed Problem on WM18 Mill |
25/01/2016 15:38:03 |
Hi all, Yesterday I was using the mill for some light facing in aluminium and the x feed was working fine and has never beeen a problem. This morning when I came to do another job the unit seems to have a fault. The power light no longer seems to come on yet the table feed to the LHS works exactly as it should but the other way nothing happens at all. I have checked all fuses etc and all are good. I am rubbish at electrics and am loatht o get inside the unit without some good advice please. Regards, Martin |

Hi Darren, I have been EXACTLY in your shoes when I got my ML7! Bite the bullet and get a Quick Change Tool Post. It makes machining fun instead of a real chore! 8mm tooling for ML7 is right. I bought some 10mm in error and had to mill the bottoms by 2mm. Rgards, Martin |

"Jeff: If I were investing in car development (I'm not, by the way) I would look to developers of better battery technology for electric cars. Motor designs are now mature enough (see Tesla cars) but range and life of batteries are the major limiting factors in acceptance of electric cars in USA. The company that can make a battery/car with 1500 km range at 100 km/h vehicle speed and sell it for $25000 USD will be a big success."
Check out OXIS Energy, new battery tech. Martin |

Hi All, Just got back from a boot sale and bought a job lot of engineering tools for a tenner including this boxed unused item which I think can possibly be used to give me variable speed capability on my ML7. According to EBay seems to be quite an expensive item though possibly of some age, ie not up to date? Presumably I would need a new motor as well. I have ZERO electrical capability at this level but my next door neighbour is an electrical engineer, (away for some time at the moment though Any advice on the feasability of this idea and possible needs, costs etc would be very helpful. Would I perhaps be better off selling this unit, assuming it is of some value, and putting the proceeds towards a Tesla ready to go unit? All help most welcome. regards Martin |
Thread: Warco WM16 or WM18? |
19/12/2015 11:54:58 |
Hi Grant, I am very much a beginner but am very happy with my WM18 overall, especially after fitting a power X feed, helped by members on here, it really does make the machine MUCH more pleasant to use. Only negative aspect is that the digital control readout for fine down feed is a bit mickey mouse and sometimes has a mind of its own. I intend to modify this soon when my skills are a bit better. It certainly seems that the maxim 'buy the biggest you can accommadate and afford' is true! Stablity, power and headspace all are better and allow more versatile use. Regards, Martin |
Thread: 120mm diameter Delrin machining problem. |
18/12/2015 19:33:49 |
Thanks a lot guys! Clearly more than one way to skin this particular cat. I quite like the idea of doing it between centres as I have not done this before. What would be the best drill speeds for this, say a hole 12mm or so please? I have some all thread this size which would do. Is there any danger of 'melting' the material? Regards, Martin |
18/12/2015 13:35:55 |
Hi All, Have just been given a new lump of 120mm diameter by 110mm long Black Delrin by my neighbour which is too wide for the external jaws of my ML7 chuck. He wants me to make a sleeve for his spinnaker pole on his boat which is basically a ring with a small flange one end, seems pretty simple if I can only get it mounted. There is plenty of spare material for chucking if I can get a bit of the diameter down to suit the ML7 chuck jaws. What is the best way of doing this please? I am thinking of somehow mounting it to the mill table, (not sure it will fit in my vice but may be able to rearrange the jaws to grip it). I have a centre finder dial gauge which I have yet to use! Seems a good time to try it out. I have no idea of the best way to mount this softish material safely to the table nor any idea of the best way to mill the shoulder for the lathe chuck. No idea of cutters or correct speeds etc. Presumably It will be OK to use a boring bar in the lathe after turning the correct outside OD? Any help and advice will be most welcome. Regards, Martin |

Well, something learned today! Opened out the holes to 8.5mm and now the runout is less than 1 thou! Good enough for most that I do and probably the limit of my skill at the moment. Thanks for the help folks Martin

Lambton, The bolts were a bit tight in their holes when I bolted the chuck to the backplate, so will take them out to 8.4mm from 8.2mm and see if it is better. Martin |

Hi Tony, I would like the machine to be set up properly but doubt that I have the necessary skill level to do it myself. How would I go about getting this done professionally please? Martin |
