Thread: Taking the p**s!! |
03/08/2023 11:30:27 |
Hi All, Filled up at Tesco's just now and the fuel filler cap exploded in my hand: I was almost next door to the local Peugeot Dealership so popped in to get one....
" Ah , Yes Sir, let's see, 2 week back order and only £81 + VAT"
Ho Hum, out comes the super glue I guess, could take as long as 40 seconds to fix....
Cheers, Martin

Thread: Bum deal on Toilet Seats! |
31/07/2023 12:26:02 |
Hi All, Does anyone know of a high quality toilet seat that uses fixings that are not made of either some crappy plastic,(pardon the pun!) or some equally rubbish monkey metal that corrodes in weeks then snaps? We have got through two of the usual offerings in the space of a couple of years and the latest just skates off to one side in use! in fairness I should add that I am not the slimmest of chaps so the seat endures more than usual loading perhaps! inrealise that they make the fixings “adjustable” but that also means that they cannot be tightened up hard to stay put. I really would like to get to the bottom of this quandary……. Cheers, Martin |
Thread: Miltary Database? |

Clive, ” Plenty of fantasy folk out there wanting to impress people” that’s what I am trying to get to the bottom of! someone I may have to deal with on something important, just sounds “off” somehow. Martin

Hi All For reasons I will not go into, I need to find out whether a person was or was not in the Royal Marines. Is this possible to do using freely available data? Regards, Martin |

I once had a squall come through in Mid Atlantic that crossed the 45 foot sailboat leaving the entire aft half bone dry and raining stair rods forward of the mast. Quite a bit of wind in front of it but plenty of time to see it coming and drop the sails. Martin |

Nothing on Google images.. Martin |

This thing is very heavy; holding it up for patting butter would wear you out really quickly! All the planes on this are flat, no hint of curvature needed for barrels? Martin |
27/07/2023 14:45:27 |
Hi All; This came in this weeks tool haul from a shed clearance guy who dropped some stuff off to me. A really massive hardwood wedge with a turned handle: I have no idea what this might have been for? One possible suggestion has been something to do with large beer barrels? HELP! Cheers, Martin |

15/07/2023 15:55:29 |
Hi Allen Thanks for that info. Is yours definitely a 145 not a 146? Does yours have the ribbed section inside the bore? Could I please have the flange and overall thicknesses? Cheers, Martin |

Thread: Cure for Tight Nuts |

I am constantly amazed that Curtis (Kurtis?) seems to do all this on his own. The ease (apparent) with which he move these gigantic lumps of steel around is simply awesome. The machines are just fantastic to watch in action. Martin |
Thread: Record No:3 4 vice jaw dimensions |
23/06/2023 18:28:31 |
Hi John, Thanks very much for that info, very close to what I made it on my vice with missing jaws! Always helps to have a second opinion! Will order up some .750 x .375 stock from Noggin End and make 7 sets! The No;3's that I have are now at the top of the Round Tuit List!, besides which THE WAR OFFICE (aka the wife), stubbed her toe on one the other day and that moved them to the top of the list somewhat rapidly.... Thanks again Martin |
23/06/2023 14:30:25 |
Hi All, can anyone please let me have the dimensions for the jaws on these vices? They are the original Made in England versions not the more modern Irwin’s etc. I need the hole positions most of all. cheers, Martin

Hopper, BTW, very nice job on the dividing head; having done two of these I know how much work it is. Cheers, Martin |

We do a LOT of restorations and use a n ultrasonic cleaner for most smaller items along with Evaporust which is excellent. Also ScotchBrite wheels and pads in various grades. Would love a laser cleaner but way too expensive sadly! Cheers, Martin |
