Hello Graham.

Really appreciate the photos, thank you.

Notice you have cut the slit in the slave gear before cutting the teeth, this is usefull to know.

Thanks again.

Thanks Graham

I can see what you're saying, would you have a photo of the gear cutting bits, or the setup you used?

Thanks,

Brian

Hi all.

Just a quick note of something I have found to anyone making an imperial one of these.

Based on the drawing, I think the idler gear will hit the thrust bearing.

Plenty of workarounds but worth keeping in mind.

Thanks.

Sometimes we overthink these things.

Good luck with the build.

Two blocks of steel, just in the vice, I had to overhang the edge of the vice for the second bend.

Just file a radius on the block and tap it round.

From the advice given to me, this is what i do.

Copper for the boiler ( obviously )

PB102 for any bushes, or anything that's soldered to the boiler which is tapped or threaded.

SAE660 for fitting that screw into the boiler.

Hi James.

I just bent the 1/16 plate in a vice between two blocks, then soldered to the curved section.

No real point annealing as it doesn't make a great any difference with mild steel.

Hello all.

With the chimney saddle now complete i am going to look at drilling the exhaust port in the end of the cylinder,

The chances are i will never steam this engine, but just in case i ever did, or maybe someone else does, should i allow for a gasket between the boiler and cylinder? and am i correct to say there is no need for a gasket between the chimney saddle and the smoke box ?

Thanks all.

Another bit done, least the smoke can escape now!

Thanks for the reply's

I think i am going to bring them inboard and use one size small heads..

Hello all.

On the base of the chimney there are 4 - 8ba bolts attaching it to the chimney saddle.

Spaced equally on a 1 3/16 pcd these seem really close to the edge.

Is this correct ?
