Thread: Emco Compact 5 Leadscrew Bush Slipping
22/11/2022 19:10:21

Problem solved with a bit of elbow grease

The bush was stuck (accumulated detritus) to the handwheel so it was rotating when you turn the wheel. Tightened the grubscrew right up and applied some reasonable force to the handwheel and it came free. Seems fine now.

I can't find any more screws, and the manuals are no help. The only other thing I can come up with is that maybe there is supposed to be a part to lock the leadscrew from moving forward at the other end.

Hi,

I'm currently trying to restore an Emco Compact 5 that had been stored out in the garage and needed de-rusting etc. I'm having problems with the leadscrew slipping. When you turn the handwheel, the bush rotates out of the back (see pic). Even if you tighten the grubscrew to the point of almost no movement, this still happens. Any ideas?

Thread: Another Newb Question- Best cutting tool for tapers?
10/01/2014 23:54:42

Should have mentioned I'm looking at the offsetting the topslide method.

10/01/2014 23:07:32

Having just started out, I'm somewhat overwhelmed by the amount of cutting tools out there for for various cutting projects.

I was hoping that someone could advise me what the best type of tool is for turning tapers?

I'm using an Emco Unimat 5 and am unsure if I have a suitable tool amongst the small selection I received with the machine after the auction.

Thanks in advance,

Simon

Thread: Emco Compact 5 Question

David, you are a star! laugh

I should have figured out there was a screw under the topslide, but sometimes it gets so you can't see the wood from the trees.

Many thanks,

Simon

Hello everyone,

I'm at complete newb at metal turning, so I hope I'm not asking a dumb question

I recently acquired an Emco Compact 5 without the manual, and am having problems figuring out how to lock down the the offset section of the compound slide. When completely unscrewed, the section has a single threaded screw that can be mounted in two position. The screw on the is not moulded on the piece and rotates in its thread, but does not actually 'screw out' of the thread.

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to lock the slide down once screwed into place. There is a very small allen screw in the side of the slide (visible in second pic), but adjustment has no effect.

Pics to illustrate:

The whole compound slide with the toolpost removed:

The base of the slide with adjustable section unscrewed:

Underside of the top section with 'loose' screw:

If anyone can help me to figure this out, I'd be very grateful

Simon
