Thread: 1930s Meccano |

How are your Meccano skills? Ever have a set? Here's one that's going to do well at auction. Just a shame it was never played with - perhaps it was more a connoisseur's edition?

Thread: What is happening to this site ? |

Hi Jason, of course there's no hostility! You wrote: "the exclusive content I won't miss" I agree with you that our facebook page is perhaps not for you.

Hi Michael, No one here has ever said that forum members would be expected to log in via facebook. OMG, I am not sure where you got that impression. You are wrong. Having said that, these forums can be browsed around the world without logging in, so if you have any sensitive content or anything confidential, this isn't the place to post it. Jason, our facebook page is for sharing news from around the clubs, articles from this website and for marketing purposes. If it offends, please avoid! Patrick |

Still here, plugging away!
I wanted to share with you a number of model engineering groups which use facebook.
There are many more than this, and a vast number of tourist narrow gauges that anyone can find anywhere online if they want to.
But these are some of the more active/enthusiastic ones just FYI.
Patrick

Hi there, Bearing in mind what was said before I'm only posting links to picture galleries or interesting inages that you won't have to login to see. I'm looking at newspapers online and magazines too. The fact these today were on facebook is incidental - it's the content I'm sharing, and hope it's of some interest. Cheers!

Thread: Another way to enjoy your hobby |

Dear Springbok Bob, I think that's a little uncalled for and very rude in any public forum. There is no automatic link to social media outside this forum or outside of the photo albums. My advice would be that if you are suspicious of something, then please don't post. I'm sorry you don't feel that I can conduct my business in a professional way - such a shame when I am working to promote the hobby that you all love so much. Patrick |

Thanks again for your responses. I think some of you have hit the nail on the head: It's an ageing interest group and as such we need to get more people interested rather than shutting them out. As a business we're looking for ways to do that, and this is one of the ways - as is updating the website. Springbok: One of our PR people? Yes, there are banks of us here tap-tapping away on press releases!

The forum here is, of course, what you make it. The new social stuff is simply another way to help US share YOUR enthusiasm of this hobby, because each time we post, it reaches new people who might just be enthused enough to enjoy it as you do ... people who may never have thought of taking it up until they saw one pictures of one of their workmates - or a friend of a friend who goes out every week to volunteer at a railway circuit. There are already around 350 twitter followers of our news, and 40 or so on facebook. We’re posting hobby images on pinterest too and that’s starting to take off with 125 followers, despite only a few images posted so far. Youtube will also be tweaked in due course... It’s about sharing, friends of friends, like-minded people and new audiences who will find us – and keep the hobby alive – via our varied channels. We can all take it or leave it. If we enjoy what you get out of ME through the channels you already use, that’s great news but I’d still like to help new people find us here. |
