Trust me she is stickler for safety.

Not even allowed to clean lathe down without unplugging it and wearing goggles with her around.

08/04/2015 16:08:20

do they have to be of us in the shop doing projects or can they be of our kids doing bits?

my youngest girl who is 6 wants to make simple little project with me over hols.

prob along lines of simple depth gauge using bit of square bare and thin rd stock but she will be drilling bar for rd stock and hole for screw then tapping it.

Thread: which steady?
04/04/2015 11:22:15
Posted by Bazyle on 04/04/2015 11:15:44:

You can make a fixed steady out of wood. Because by its nature it is adjustable you can take out any build errors.

Use the spare money for material to make tools like tailstock die holder.

I take it this "the unimat was going in bin as wire was cut off and only had drill chuck with it." was written by your wife while you weren't looking. A model engineer only puts plastic food wrap and oily loo roll in the bin (as using it to light the fire contaminates wood ash). Everythng else will come in handy some day.

no it was somebody who was binning loads of bits.

04/04/2015 10:30:59

the steadies are for my clarke cl430 sorry should have said.

the unimat was going in bin as wire was cut off and only had drill chuck with it.

no spring or handle.

chuck for lathe is missing as well as spindle from tail stock.

rewired motor and it works, so now want to make other bits for it.

my 6yr old girl as claimed for her as it's her size.

04/04/2015 10:06:38

got a bit of extra money for tooling after doing a weigh in.

so thinking of getting steady for lathe.

which to get first, travelling or fixed?

planning on doing screwcutting so i can make bits for my unimat sl.

cheers

Thread: screw cutting speed and angle
02/04/2015 16:43:25

what sort of rpm should i be looking at for screwcutting?

its a clarke cl430, and at lower end i can have 160, 250 or 400 rpm.

just treat myself to some hss tools from arc so want to have a go.

also do i have tool at 90deg to steel or slight angle?

any other tips appreciated.

thanks.
