Thread: Advice for surface finishing |

I used a brand new cutting tip and had the lathe speed at around 700rpm. I have never managed to achieve a good finish with carbide tips on my S7, and assuredly not at that speed. My solution is, as others have suggested, HSS. But my preferred weapon is then the AR Warner HSS insert, which I can exchange with carbide. Sadly, these are not available in the UK as far as I know? But can be ordered from.... https://littlemachineshop.com/products/product_view.php?ProductID=3575&category=-1550042347 Happily, they last well and I have been able to dress them with a stone when blunted. Thread: Rubber mat. |

Rubber? I introduced some homemade wooden duckboards into my workshop last year - and have not looked back. They provide a lovely mechanical spring that synthetic materials dont. I just kick them around the floor to where they're needed, and you can make them to the 'right' size. Cheers, Colin |

Neil, add me to the list please. Cheers, Colin |
Thread: Parcelforce or DPD |

Both are very reliable. But I would prefer DPD for the same reason mentioned by others. The comms with the user, and tracking on the day are just soooooh much better. Cheers, Colin |

Neil, a real piece of added value there. I dont know how everyone else is enduring the pandemic. We seem to be able to go around our daily business etc, but it is getting very boring! What I miss, are routine exchanges outwith our small circles. And, while maybe not a perfect substitute for 'pub night', this helps to create some remedy. It was also genuinely nice to attach some identity to profile names, matching them to talking beards. Cheers, Colin |

Neil, please shoot me a link when the time comes. Cant promise to be able to make it, or to contribute much. But any kind of interactive exchange sounds great from where I'm sitting!!! Cheers, Colin |

Have you asked the guys at Holden? They're pretty good chaps to talk to.... Cheers, Colin |
Thread: Moving a Myford VMC advice needed thanks! |

Dave, 'Scotland' is quite a large place really. If you are in/near central Edinburgh and are minded to borrow an engine crane to help manage the lift out of the van and subsequent assembly, DM me.... Cheers, Colin |

Five hundred quid or a roll of sellotape... There is a solution between these options, but sellotape is closer to the answer. Stick a glass screen protector on it. Should be £5-10. Just search something like 'apple ipad glass screen protector 2018' on a well-known auction site. And, frankly, if anyone is using an iPad without one of these, they should do the same. Cheers, Colin |
Thread: Conversion bracket |

Cheers. That worked.... |

John, I am in exactly your position at present - VMA on a 254 bracket, that I want to fit to an S7. I wanted to see the pics of how you managed this, but cant find them as the album seems to come up blank. Is that just me...? Also, how did you verify the axes of the column relative to the late bed? Cheers, Colin |

The tips you require are available from Plansee Do you have an internet link for 'Plansee'? Tried googling but did not see anything helpful. Cheers, Colin |

Like these AR Warner tips? I use these, and think they're great. But have to order them from Little Machine Shop... https://littlemachineshop.com/products/product_category.php?category=-1550042347&Brand=A+R+Warner |
Thread: Arc Euro Trade - Quality? |
13/05/2020 22:20:52 |
I don't know about your specific items, but I have been using Arc Euro successfully as my 'go to' for generic tools. The quality, consistency and pricing have been genuinely good - which is not something I have always found among other low-cost providers... Cheers, Colin |
Thread: Adhesive for rubber sheet? |

Double-sided tape? It's what I use to fix rubber sheet to my workbench top..... |
Thread: Myford Mk1 Super 7 restoration |

If the paint is 'stuck' that well on the cabinet, perhaps better to leave it in place, sand it down to provide a key and clean it - and simply paint over it? Cheers, Colin |
Thread: Holding End Mill on small lathe |
14/03/2020 16:25:07 |
Dont try to hold endmills in a chuck, they are quite likely to slide in/out. An ER collet works, and is what I have been using so far, or there are end mill holders for standard size endmills. Easiest way to manage the y axis is with a vertical slide attachment. What is the lathe? Cheers, Colin |

Found a pic from something I was chasing a few ago. The slot drill is being held in a 3/8" Myford collet.... |
12/03/2020 13:01:19 |
I think the intention with these is that you would use your trusty Myford 2MT collet set, hence the presence of the threaded nose for a Myford collet retainer. Otherwise, a bit of threaded studding without the lid on, as John suggested..... |
