Its not just that, they encourage breeding of such rubbish by generous welfare payments. I see it all the time, have a kid and get payments you can blow on cheap beer, weed and gambling.

Howard has it, i always smooth out cutting edges on ground tools with a stone.

The thread is right hand, which makes things slightly easier. I would prefer to keep the same size thread as the original as the dials would be miles out otherwise. I suppose i could use a dro but was not intending to. Thanks to all for the links, i will either email or ring them over the next few days and see what i can chase up. The nut i can make up myself. Bought a Jones and shipman 540 surface grinder recently, its old but complete and in good condition overall. However the crossfeed screw and nut are worn, which i have been told is usual, as the powerfeed "kicks" the screw when powerfeed is engaged.

They are available from jubilee mac, for nearly £600 ! So i want to make a new screw and nut. It would make life easier if i could buy the threaded rod rather than having to screwcut one.

Anyone know where i might be able to buy threaded rod in this size ?

I am from Ireland, and while yes a tiny minority of the catholic church did horrific things, a huge amount of them did hard and good work in working class areas, often for very little thanks or recognition, and was one of the glues that bound society together. But as usual the majority pays for the sins/crimes of the minority. Is the bbc a paedophile organisation because of savile, harris etc ? They were getting huge salaries from the taxpayers, to produce rubbish programmes and rape youngsters.

The bloody tower, hanging drawing and quartering, pitch capping, the rack etc. The royals under Henry the eighth, profited hugely from the catholic church when he seized their lands and property.

As for the cathedral, what a terrible thing to happen to such a historic and wonderful building, terrible, just as it would be if St.Pauls were to have burned during the blitz. Notre dame is owned by the republic of France, So it is their property and they are responsible for the damage repairs.

Well it will be upscaling i will be doing most likely, i see a design for a simple steam engine, but its a bit small for my machines and i prefer larger models anyway.

Is scaling a drawing up or down a simple matter of multiplying or dividing the given dimensions by a set figure, say 2x or 4x ?

Or is it as i suspect more involved than that ?

Yes when i was starting fusion, i followed lars videos too. Coming from solidworks, i found some of the ways of fusion odd.

The only thing i have ever heard German silver or nickle silver being used for was the famous grills on rolls royce motorcars.

Mitutoyo tools are excellent, but their boxes are rubbish. The cream coloured boxes that their micrometers come in are extremely brittle, i have several where they have cracked or broken, leaving the tools open to damp and dirt, not good.

The felt in the micrometer boxes, is in the lid, and yes i have several that have turned to crumb rubber, leaving the mic covered in little black specks.

I also have a metric mitutoyo depth mic, that came in a nice wooden box. It was in perfect shape, but i went to use it one day and was disgusted to discover the depth rods covered in rust. I had to clean them off and some were pitted. Things like wood and felt absorb moisture and rust tools.

Someone told me mothballs in tool cases resist rust, or maybe things like vp90, as used in gunsafes and things like that.

Yes i did that too, making crystal sets. Ladybird did a little book on it, all the bits held to a piece of pine board (pre-mdf) with brass screws (remember them) and screw cups. I believe pow's made sets using a piece of coke, which was scratched at with a wire until a signal was received.

Kids don't make things like that anymore, they sit gawping at mobile phone screens now.
