Thread: Putter heads milled from steel
05/01/2013 21:06:31
Hi Martin,
A friend of mine is drawing up the designs on CAD. These appears to be the easiest method, but as mentioned my knowledge of machining is slim!

I am looking for a CNC shop to mill some golf putter heads for me.

I am in the early stages of building a new company, so volume will be low at first. However, my goals are to grow quickly and I would like to find a machinist that I can develop a longer term relationship with who can help me grow my business and share in some of the benefits of that growth.

Whilst low cost is obviously a factor, it is not the sole motivator for me. I do not have a background in machining and would appreciate a shop that can give me guidance on CAD designs to help reduce milling costs. I also foresee working through multiple prototypes prior to ordering large production runs, so a shop that isn't aderse to doing some one-off prototypes with the understanding that they will lead to larger orders in the future would be good.

Ideally, I would like to develop a business relationship with a machinist where in exchange for good service and fair pricing I will steer all of my business to a single supplier. I am not interested in bidding out project after project searching for the lowest cost supplier, nor am I seeking unreasonable trade terms or credit. I will pay cash on delivery.

I am based in Kent, so a local shop would be good, but anywhere in the UK is fine.

I am currently in the process of finishing off two designs that are ready to prototype. I would like 2 prototypes of each design. After testing the designs and getting some feedback, I will place an order for 25-50 of each design. Further designs will be forthcoming, hopefully with ever increasing volumes.

So I would like a price for both the prototype run and the production run of 25-50 of each. The putters are to be milled out of carbon steel.

Please PM me or contact me on the email address below.

Thread: NAEROK RDM350M Milling machine power feed
10/07/2012 16:41:06

The mill is around that age to and excellent quality. The guy who had it before was an old boy who recorded every single thing he did to it!!

After much research and time spent on ebay I picked up my first milling machine yesterday. It is a Naerok RDM350M and I got it for a good price with lots of tools. I am pleased as I wanted to go for a larger machine and this is definately big enough for what I want to do. Since I began looking in to these machines I have seen that power feeds can be a great help, especially for some of the stuff I want to do. Does anyone know what type of feed would fit on this machine, and also where I could get one from?

Many thanks

Tom

Thread: Milling machine for making putters

That was my plan, I was going to start off with aluminium and eventually move on brass, machine steel etc. I just need a suitable machine. I was looking at the Sieg x2???

Thanks for the replies. I've had a look in machine mart at the CMD 10 and it's a bit on the small side. The material im looking to work with is stainless or carbon steel. I am not looking to mass produce, I want to start off making handmades with a mill. There are a few putter makers who use manual mills on golf websites. I'm having trouble finding out what kit they are using though. I understand it is a slow process but im told that once you have a basic shape in mind the head itself is easy to make. the putter kneck is later welded on. Trouble is i'm trying to find a powerful enough machine with a £500 budget, not easy!!

Hello Everyone,

I am currently looking to buy a small manual milling machine for making a putter (golf). Unfortunately a CNC model is currently out of my price range, but I may look to upgrade a manual machine at a later date. I am completely new to milling and have been looking at the Clarke range. Can anyone advise me if the CMD10 would be suitable? I am going to start off working with aluminium to get the correct shapes, eventually the final putters would be made from stainless or carbon steel.
