I like the looks of the 140, space is no issue once I get the lathe to the garage. But that must weigh a good half tonne, so getting this down the side of my house would prove abit difficult. The side of my house has a concrete post, slab wooden fence then the house. So only big enough for 1 bloke either side to hand ball the machine, clearly can be done but it's also 2 steps. 1 140 on ebay looks ok also 1 L5. Cheers |

Cheers thor I didn't notice this on the myford, Regaurding the Wm290 this is the same has the 1130GV toolco version minus the DRO. With the DRO it's a little more at the mo than I'm willing to spend, planned on ?1500 tops but the DRO will prob be an option later on. There's that many lathes now to choose from and I don't want to just go out and buy 1 to find its not met my requirements. Space is no problem once it's in the work shop, (garage) but getting it there would need hand balling. Cheers |

Cheers jason Thats a nice lump you have in their, way over the top dia wise for what I'd be machining. Just wanted to know the machines limits really, don't want to hammer the crap out of 1 when clearly not designed for heavy cuts. Be save to say a 3-4 cut would be save then. |

Hi I have a machining background and would like to get myself a bench lathe, this would be used for model making/modding only. The mini lathes I don't think would be suitable, was looking at warco site at the WM280 and toolco for the simlar lathe. Now I understand with little research I've done these are not hardcore machines for production work, but I would be making a few parts the same with a few thou tolerance max. My main question is really what would be the safe max cut in steel, say 4inch dia. I don't want to be taking a few thou cuts and spending hrs turning down steel. All though the main material would be alloy, would also like to machine gears. But a miller maybe the best option here later on. Thanks. |
