I decided to uprate the lathe motor from 550W to 750W when I installed the new motor on the lathe. It was all too easy to stall the old motor when running at the highest speeds, even with relatively light depths of cut. The motor, although only slightly larger in physical size than the old one, fitted on the old mounting plate with just a couple of (fairly unsightly) modifications and additional bracketry. I was pleased that the splash guard still fitted with no requirement for modification.
