This should be the interesting bit! I've decided on a late change - instead of using 5mm bolts to hold it all together, I'm going to use some 6mmŲ rod, threaded to 5mm at each end. I hope that this will more securely locate the centre plates. I will have to enlarge the holes in the centre plates to accomodate the rod, so that will slightly delay proceedings. EDIT: That didn't work! Spent nearly 3 hours trying to thread some 6mm steel from local hardware store. Used a die and tried screw-cutting in the lathe. The threads looked like they'd been hewn with a blunt file. Finally gave up and reverted to bolts.
