This shows the turret casting from the VMC mill. An angle grinder has been used by the factory fitter to remove metal from the machined face of the flange, the face of the rear flange has been attacked in the same way. Daylight could be seen between the surfaces of the bolted up flanges. The turrets two flange faces had also not been machined parrallel to each other. This together with the roughly filed mating surfaces of the flanges on the head, motor mount and on top of the column made swiveling and tilting the head a chore. However these crude methods by the factory had achieved the required level of accuracy of the head square to the table. Even so they are still one of my favourite machines, and the new, slightly heavier Chinese made versions are a bargain.
